What are your goals after retiring?

Hard to believe I have been retired 17 years. I have never had a moment’s regret or wondered what I would do.

I have spent my time caring for my horses and this small farm. Husband passed two years ago, so now everthing is on my shoulders. I have bigger fish to fry than to continually grumble — not saying that I don’t — I just don’t make a habit of it.

I retired about ten months earlier than I had hoped to due to a layoff at the company I worked for and then not getting another job in the following six months.

I don't have any definite goals but some of the "productive" ideas for keeping myself busy (learn to play the guitar, read more, do some watercolors, work on art glass) have fallen by the wayside. I just don't seem to be motivated to do anything product with my spare time.

I do work for a friend of mine but it's a very laid back position and quite often I just spend five minutes working for the day. It's kind of fun because I do get to travel a little bit to at least one tradeshow each year and I enjoy doing that. I also "work" for my wife cutting the glass she uses for the fusing classes she teaches one day a week.

The one thing I wanted to start doing after retiring that is at least something that keeps me physically fit is climbing at the gym. I also had hopes to get outdoors to climb but since most of the people I know are unable to get away on weekdays when I can climb while my wife is working I didn't do that as often as I wanted to.

The other thing we've done is travel a little bit more than before. We haven't stepped it up as much as I expect we will eventually. My wife teaches glass fusing at a local city recreation center and also at an event in Las Vegas. So we can't just get away any time we want to. In addition to that we have two small dogs who need to be taken care of so unless we're going on a camping trip we either need to board them (which is *very* expensive) or find someone to stay with them. They're 13 and 12 but the breed often lives until 15 to 18 so they may be with us for a while. Once they're gone we'll be doing more spontaneous travel.

So I think my retirement plans are very selfish. I am impressed with all the folks who are doing volunteer work.

So my current goals are basically have as much fun as I can and enjoy myself.

We've had good weather this winter. This is an un-usual schedule for winter
Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri
9-10:15am
Get up. Coffee, Toast & fruit, get dressed, prep for the day
10:30-11:30am Garden, enjoy our hens
12-1 Mtn Bike up a hill & back home
1-1:20 Rinse off in the shower for 5,6-7 minutes
1:20-2pm Eat a larger meal
2pm-3pm Go online or maybe go gold panning, foraging, etc.
3pm-4:30 Tasks, Chores, listen to music, audio bible, etc
4:30-6pm Dinner
6pm-7pm Outside again, forage, gold pan, build something, enjoy the hens.
7pm-8pm Whatever, tasks usually. If bored, we go to bed.

Wed (or another day w/ good weather) Up 8-9am. Shower, wash & style hair. Toast & fruit. 4 hrs E-biking to the library & health food store
Sat: Up at 8am. Shower/wash style hair. Town Breakfast Potluck 10-12. Over 1/2 of our 160 townsfolk attend. We host 2x a mo. Often end up hanging around with someone afterwards. May come to our house, or vice versa.
Sun: Up at 8am, shower, style hair. 2 hr, round trip commute to church. Usually visit our son, maybe a little shopping too

Winters are usually long due to rain/snow and being cooped up. I host a weekly bible study and we still attend Sat Breakfast Potluck. Our son comes to our house 3-4x staying over for a few days to visit.

Mid June-Mid Oct We work a family business together. He does 5 days, I generally average 4 days a week. At home we do a 1 hr bike ride 3-4x a week as usual, spend much less time gardening. Trade/Buy veges from the downtown Seasonal Farmers Mkt.

Wow - I'm assuming this is an approximate idea of the sort of activities that will be occupying your time, rather than a strictly adhered to schedule. But, those are great ways to enjoy your retirement, and staying active like that will be very important for your health.
