I was so sad to read the news after a friend of mine texted me about his death. He continued to work after being diagnosed and publicly shared what was happening to his body. He became a spokesperson for ALS, affiliating himself with an ALS organization and announcing the Push For Progress campaign. Its mission is to accelerate research and increase funding. In July of last year, I posted about his ALS diagnosis and included an interview with Diane Sawyer. It hasn't even been a year since he was first diagnosed.

My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues and may he rest peacefully in Paradise.

I remember seeing him on the cable show The Last Ship right before the COVID era. His resume is extensive

I was surprised how fast it progressed because I know of people who had it for years. He's been diagnosed less than 2 years ago.

RIP
He was actually diagnosed less than a year ago in April 2025. He had experienced symptoms earlier that year. I thought his disease progressed awfully fast.

This has just been released: Dane left a heartfelt message to his daughters and asked for it not to be released until the day of his death. Posted posthumously on Netflix on Friday, Dane speaks with Brad Falchuk about his condition.

💔
I got teary eyed watching that video! Such a big difference in his ability to speak since he was interviewed by Diane Sawyer, which I believe took place in July 2925.

it did seem quite fast progression in this case.
As sad as it can be sometime celebrity can bring attention to diseases. The video said disease progression is faster than I had thought it was and some people are fast progressors.
years ago, there was a social media challenge called the ice bucket challenge to bring awareness to ALS. it was interesting Mr Dane did this challenge not knowing this would be in his future and a disease that would take him so quickly.

I'm aware of the ice bucket challenge, but didn't know he took the challenge. You're right. Celebrities that have the courage to speak publicly about their diseases do help to bring attention to and awareness about those ailments.
My childhood friend got this diagnosis and died a year later. It’s a horrible way to die and she really suffered. We had been friends since kindergarten.
For this reason, I feel it was a blessing that Eric Dane passed so quickly. I hate to imagine the suffering he would have endured had he lasted longer.

Very sad, that anybody today should go at such
a young age, because of an illness, it seems that
there is no cure for it, over here it is called, "Lou
Gehrig's Disease", I haven't heard any mention of
it for many years, somebody might now have
another look at it and find a cure.

R.I.P. Eric Dane.

Mike.
