St. Patrick's Day dishes and treats

Yes, we Americans dearly love to celebrate...as long as it involves food and drink. Since I have Irish ancestry (Scots-Irish)I thought it would be fun to explore dishes and treats that people are going to enjoy, from Dublin to Belfast. Google search seems to think that St. Patrick's day food and treats 'needs' to be green, I'm thinkin' that AI is over-thinkin' that one.

Being only Irish by exposure to my husband, he did leave me a love for Guinness and Irish Stew! His mother made some of the best!

Here in Australia they go all out for St. Patrick's Day. Everyone dresses up in green and even the pubs serve green beer.
I'm sure there's a few ring-ins, but any excuse for a booze-up.

The rest of the Licky Charms can go into a St Patrick’s Day version of Rice Crispie Treats or White Trash.

Scale the recipes uo or down depending on the number of leprechauns and how much gold you have. 🪉

A Rueben sounds good but I don't think it's Irish.

Our meal will be a small beef roast w/ veggies, buttery scones, and apple pie
If I could find actual real bangers, that would be morning of, so we'll settle for "rashers" (bacon)
That is what my elderly folks fixed on the day itself.
The weekend before or after, probably do the corned beef for sandwiches/Rueben's most likely also.

I think the Reuben sandwich is Russian-Jewish in origin. When I worked as a cook at a Jewish delicatessen-restaurant I made a lot of Reuben sandwiches, as well as serving of Borscht and Matzah balls and such.

That is why I have it before or after St Patty's I make the traditional family meal of my elders I grew up with. Hubby is from Chicago and
they have the best Rueben's in that area for all the places we have had them. Large Jewish community there also.

Edited: My family didn't have the corned beef on St Paddy's day, it was always Beef Pot Roast, not corned. Maybe my ancestors in Ireland
didn't feed cattle corn over there.

Blarney… good one! Corned beef doesn’t have anything to do with what the cows are fed.

It's not a thing here, but my son had a leprachaun suit for carnival.

I'm not going to attempt making my own corn beef at this late date, I'll be going to the grocery store and see if they offer corn beef ready made . Corn beef hash? It's on my list.

I always try to have corn beef and cabbage on St Paddys Day. Then again, it's really not that special. I have it several times a year. I make a big pot and eat over several days.
