Just how silly is our news.

Bill Maher read a quote condemning the war powers act on the air to Adam Schiff. Before a reaction was stated it was revealed that the quote referenced a past administration. Seems pretty evident to me that our politicians never let facts deter bias.

I heard the statement that Maher read and said so and so said it. Schiff denounced the statement, but then Maher told him it was actually another President from the opposite Party that made the claim. I didn’t hear the reaction because I was on the phone at the time.

I mourn the loss of the William F Buckley's and Chris Hitchens of the world. I drank with Christ Hitchens once and even though we were political opposites, he was so grounded in his beliefs. It wasn't just a virtue signal.

Some of our public figures from the past gave us some great one liners to lighten the daily news broadcast. Everett Dirksen who said a million here, a million there pretty soon we're talking big money. I find a lot of humor in Louisiana Senator Kennedy's commentary with or without agreeing with his opinion.

It's sad to see current news filled with malicious commentary simply to take an opposing view no matter what the subject may be. Whether true or not I like the reference to our earliest political figures serving a period of time then returning to their citizen life. It seems to me that the world of career politicians has not been an improvement.

Those quotes are often like footsteps in the sand. No one remembers who made them or which direction they were headed.

Bill Maher is not "news."

The statement comes from a formal memorandum by the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) dated April 1, 2011, titled "Authority to Use Military Force in Libya".

The memorandum concluded:
  • "The President had the constitutional authority to direct the use of military force in Libya because he could reasonably determine that such use of force was in the national interest."
  • The OLC argued that the intervention did not constitute a "war" in the constitutional sense and therefore did not require a formal declaration of war from Congress.
In addition...

The 2011 intervention in Libya was a multi-state military operation led by NATO to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973. The intervention was prompted by the first Libyan Civil War, where the government of Muammar Gaddafi used lethal force to suppress a national uprising.

Key Objectives and Operations
  • Mandate: The UN authorized "all necessary measures" to protect civilians and established a no-fly zone.
  • Coalition: Operations began on March 19, 2011, initially led by the United States, United Kingdom, and France.
  • Command: NATO took sole command on March 31 under Operation Unified Protector.
  • U.S. Involvement: The U.S. portion, Operation Odyssey Dawn, focused on crippling Libyan air defenses.
Outcome and Legacy
  • Fall of Gaddafi: The intervention enabled rebel forces to take Tripoli in August and culminated in the killing of Muammar Gaddafi on October 20, 2011.
  • Mission End: NATO officially concluded the mission on October 31, 2011.
  • Consequences: While it prevented a massacre in Benghazi, the intervention is often criticized for leading to a power vacuum, perpetual civil strife, and the rise of extremist groups in the region.
