It's gamble pulling the strike right before or during the holiday season. On one hand it will draw attention on the other it will draw unwanted attention from affected flyers. In some areas of the country they are under paid and in others I've seen airport/airline jobs be some of the highest paying in the area.

The article is true to a point. Smaller airports do hire contract help from temporary work agencies. I do agree that they are paid less than they should receive for the amount of work that is required. However, I never understood why people take jobs knowing beforehand what the job pays and then after they start working for the company complain about the wages. If a person finds the wage unacceptable, don't accept the job. Most temp agencies have several openings doing less stressful and laborious work. If a baggage handler is only making $10.00 an hour, wow, that's not much money considering what is required of the worker. Climbing into the belly of a plane to stack luggage is not a fun job. Even tagging the bags and putting them on the belt is hard work.

Yes, complain about the wages they knew about going in. Or that it is a part time job with no benefits. There an era when many entry level or non license non degree jobs would pay survivable wage and give benefits but that's decades ago. Sometimes one has to accept a job for what it is. That being said the employer has to realize or be realistic about what they are paying and that many employees will need scheduling considerations for another job, family commitments or not act like a full-time employee with benefits.

Only until recently has Walmart upped their salary and benefit package to their full time employees, at least this is what I have read in the newspaper. A company that pockets billions of dollars per year off the backs of their employees should be ashamed of themselves for not paying a livable wage and offering a decent insurance package to full time personnel. Part time employment was always meant to supplement one's income and not be the sole resource for making a living.
