Today ended up being quite a good one. I met my deadline and then met a friend for coffee, and we chatted 'way too long, but it was so good to catch up.
Then I finally braced myself and did my taxes. After a few years of stupid mistakes, sloppy record-keeping, and underestimating my income, which fluctuates from year to year, I was extremely concerned I would owe money yet again. But last year I was vastly more conservative in my estimates, and meticulous in my records, and I finally got a refund. I seriously almost cried. I can get an overdue eye exam and pay off some of my credit card debt (some of which is, ironically, due to past tax bills).
I know that the goal is to basically break even, but I don't care. I'm just so relieved.
Tomorrow is the monthly online/Zoom meeting of the (London-based) Ocean Liner Society. I'm looking forward to the topic: "Leisure and Labour on the Early-Modern Cruise Ship (1880-1960)." (April's meeting is with Bill Miller. I'm been wildly excited. Yes, I'm a geek, ha ha.)
And Wednesday is my next Fab Four Master Class with my publishing crush (as opposed to a celebrity crush), Ken Womack.
@hawkdon, when you mentioned a fox, I was worried you were going to say it was rabid! I'm glad it wasn't.
Good night, everyone. I got so het up about the taxes that I'm exhausted.
