A massive 12-ton shipment of Nestle's crunch KitKat bars was stolen in a chocolaty heist that risks causing a shortage in stores right before Easter.

KitKat, owned by Swiss food giant Nestle, told AFP on Saturday that "a truck transporting 413,793 units of its new chocolate range has been stolen during transit in Europe." The shipment disappeared last week while heading between production and distribution locations, the company said

Not surprised because chocolate or bars with real chocolate/coco in them have become expensive. Apparently only a few spots that can grow it.

Also be very careful with any thing chocolate flavored because their is a tone of stuff with an artificial chocolate flavors and not coco.

Unlike some drugs smuggling chocolate requires a more controlled and cooler environment.

What was it in the US a few months ago? I think lobsters heading for Costco or something? Around Christmas or New Year's?

Selling stolen chocolate is probably not as easily caught as selling stolen vehicles and can still turn a profit at the price of candy/candy bars these days... Personally I don't mind a Kit Kat if the only thing around but they sure aren't the be all/end all of candy bars, kind of basic.

I prefer a Take 5, love a salted nut roll and of course a Snickers will always do.

I didn't do it. I have a bag of Snickers right now so am not desperate...

In December before Christmas was it or New Year's, lobster was stolen, a semi truckload if I recall, headed for MN. Costco if I recall...

It sure does make for some headlines...

Now it's chocolate. The art heist though, now that's the unbelievable one and really makes on think about what is wrong with security of places that should be SO protected with things of major value... And irreplaceable...

just so you know..Kit-Kats are british....

KitKat is a British brand
. It was created in 1935 by Rowntree's in York, England, originally named "Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp" before becoming "Kit Kat" after World War II. While now owned by Nestlé and sold worldwide, it is still manufactured in York, UK.
