The reason, the why, is important to family, is it helps them with closure.

While I will never get closure on my brothers murder, I have on a cousins that was raped and beat on the head to death. I was the one to discover her body in a family cabin, so I had to do court testimony. Once it was established that he was the last person seen with her, he confessed to get a reduced sentence. His statement to the court was he was on drugs and she refused to have sex with him and no woman can refuse him and get away with it. Sick and disgusting to hear, but it did offer closure.
 
I wish the judge had at least required him to read his confession aloud to the court and families. Perhaps that may not have accomplished anything, but it seems to me like more personal accountability (i.e., other than the life sentences) is needed, even if minor.
 
I just watched this, searched to see if you had a thread on it, and found it pretty good. I thought I watched the vic witness statements too but not sure I recall all this. It's pretty good. Imo so thought I'd share. I'm not a huge L & C fan but they do do some decent stuff. And I thought this was worthwhile.

I am happy to say that Kohberger was arrested by the Pennsylvania State Police. (PSP)

I had to check what prison Kohberger would be housed in and from what I read, he will be sent to Idaho Maximum Security Institution, which has a long term restrictive housing unit and it has a solitary confinement unit. It is possible that he will remain there until his death. I’m sure that he will be placed under suicide watch for at least the next 90-180 days, but I would consider him high risk for suicide. He has threatened suicide or self harm, but prisoners have been known to do this so that they may get moved to a psychiatric institution or if the prison has a ward, he would rather be placed there.

Some people will be happy to learn that he is being harassed daily by other inmates and even though they can’t get to him, the verbal harassment has known to drive a prisoner batty. He’s in his cell for 23 hours per day with 1 hour out in the yard. Idaho places prisoners that are a security risk in a cage while outside to aid in preventing escape.

It’s been my experience that Kohberger is a definite suicide risk.

I'm no expert but I consider him too self involved to be suicidal but with his freedom lost who knows... He has written countless letters complaining about this and that, food not being what he prefers, being harassed by other prisoners, etc...

I've followed it from the start like probably many have. And the PA arrest, the sheath, the DNA and genetic genealogy and the plea deal... The families of the victims, more or less all of it. Like Guthrie it made headlines... Some do, some don't. Sadly. Since I'm new, of course I haven't discussed it here throughout.

I follow a few YT channels re some crimes. This was one of them.

Those victim impact statements were brutal to watch. Even the judge was wiping away tears.

I don't know how I missed this (hearing about his sentence, I mean.)

In my opinion, avoiding the death penalty should have FORCED him to admit his motive/reasons. As it stands, the families/friends of the victims will probably wonder about it for the rest of their lives. 😡
 
Wondering if the families will try to get testimony out of him in their lawsuit against the school where he went saying they ignored too many complaint about his 'creepy' behavior.

yeah it was a time ago not long before trial was to begin if i recall. some of the families were very upset by it and wanted it to go to trial for the DP, etc. and things to come out.

some try to say even had he been required to give his reasons and what actually happened, that one can't believe the perp anyhow but i think that's a bit of a lame excuse...

I forget his name but the prosecutor was about to retire if I recall. I guess at least he had to admit to guilty on each and got LWOPs and they refused to deal more than that... I mean they gave him nothing other than removing the DP and that he was not required to give up the info on why, how, whatever.... How about where the knife is even??

That’s what they said about Phillip Markoff, if you remember him. Other killers have been noted as being narcissistic and self-centered and then later found dead in their cell. The best known prisoner lately is Jeffrey Epstein. The psychologists for the federal prosecutor said at the time that Epstein should not be considered a suicide threat, even after his first failed attempt.

I'm going to have to look up Markoff as it is not coming to mind.

Epstein boy that one, I don't know. I could talk of that separately. Of course who he was compared to who Kohberger is, a nothing really, is very different...

But as far as those that end up dead, Dahmer would be one. Someone got to him. Been some years...

I'm no conspiracy person, but with Epstein one has to wonder I think... I mean the man was a blackmailer of people who had a LOT to lose... And a narcissist and I'd go so far as to say more than that. There are just too many things that can't be explained in NY from him being watched and on camera and separate and a risk, etc. and yet such happens... Camera wasn't working and this and that. So many slip ups that it could happen, so many issues... Too many to believe. BUt he had info on BIG people. It was his way...

I find it hard to believe Epstein was a suicide. I don't believe in many a conspiracy but he was such a danger to so many reputations etc. Too much wrong...

Generally I don't believe narcissists will kill themselves so much as make attempts if it comes to it to gain attn/sympathy. They think too much of self.

But then that's putting all into groups and saying all would do the same and I don't think that can be generalized either.

IF at at the end and say knowing they'd never see another day free, maybe... Some would... But even then I don't think most would...

Not into labels much... Like narcissists. It's like profiling. I think it can help but I don't think it is a be all/end all and that all are the same.

My opinion anyhow.
