Interesting incident today at the thrift store

I stopped by a thrift store today that I frequent occasionally and they were handing out boxes of Naloxone (the generic of Narcan). The guy at the door said that everyone needed to have one on hand these days and it doesn't expire for a couple of years.

Nobody in my household uses drugs but I guess if someone in the neighborhood needs one, I'll have it on hand. Maybe I'll carry one in my car in case I see anyone OD'ing. It's sort of like an inhaler; you stick it up someone's nose and squeeze the injector. Apparently, there's a rapid reversal of the effects of whatever narcotic they've taken. The box says it's safe for use even if the person hasn't OD'd on narcotics but has something else wrong.

Well, that was my unusual event of the day......

I’m surprised you had that experience unless the store is in a neighborhood that has a lot of overdoses. I would have declined to take it as I don’t want unnecessary things taking up space.

I guess I'm glad that there is such a thing as narcan to save lives. I can't put aside the thought that it also gives an enabling message to the drug user, as an escape path. Just my thought.
Unfortunately, it seems to do just that. I was watching a cop show, one that shows actual footage, and they were "narcanning" a guy who had OD'd and mentioned that it was the third time that week they had been called for him. Unfortunately, one of these days he'll OD and nobody will be there to save him.
