In 1967 Gordon Lightfoot was commissioned by the CBC TV network, to write a song about the building of the Trans Canada railway. He wrote the "Canadian Railway Trilogy ". It is a three part poem set to his music melody. Here is a great video which has the lines of the poem on the screen, along with period photographs of the men who built the railway "From Sea to Sea".

I saw him in concert in Connecticut because my wife had befriended a woman from Canada who at the time lived in the states. The woman was just about as excited about seeing him as anyone.
I told a musician friend of mine at the time that I was going to see Gordon Lightfoot and he asked me if I was going to take a Walkman so I would something to listen to during the show. LOL!
I had a greatest hits of his so I was familiar with most of what he played.

That would have been the album "Gord's Gold" which is still selling on the used record and CD markets. Lightfoot trivia. During his long career he played Massey Hall in Toronto over 170 times. Massey Hall compares to Carnegie Hall in the USA. JIMB>
