The Chicago police chief was fired amid a vicious shooting, withheld evidence and recent protests.

I've been watching this and my big question is why weren't charges brought months ago, How come the DA hasn't resigned yet.

In the world of political corruption this is not easy to pin on one person because a lot of political corruption includes protecting the institution itself, the power structure and/or status quo. Now how much the chief, the mayor or DA manipulated this case is still under question. But like any spy or gang organization there is plausible deniability. Any investigation needs to include what each individual did with this case including the police who messed with the Burger King video. Point is many take it upon themselves to protect their job/the job and status. Partly because if the job loses it's status so do they, especially for the paranoid. Others in authority in particular get very upset when authority is questioned. Then there is the brotherhood thing and that's because many expect their butts to be protected one day-these underlings are just as dangerous as any politician because at the employee or frontline level there are more individuals to be corrupt or commit corrupt acts.

There is will always be some form of police corruption but my thing was not only the delay in this case but how come the limited follow through on the police black site over the last year. Off the books black site or holding facility and there is a no or limited investigation by outside authorities???

What do you mean, Davey? The Police Chief who got fired isn't Obama's buddy. Rahm Emanual is the Mayor of Chicago, he didn't get fired. And, most importantly, I doubt Obama approved of a kid getting murdered.

This whole deal stinks. Here's why: Emmanuel failed in his re-election bid as Mayor, and a run-off election was necessary. Success (for Emmanuel) of that run-off depended very heavily on blacks' votes, which would almost surely have been meager had that video been released. So he suppressed it, as any typically-lying political official would likely have done, and got re-elected. Now, knowledge of the video being widespread, the natural scapegoat to suffer the "tortures of the damned", was the Chief of Police.

Stinks. imp

This is/are the sticky politics that motivates underlings or subordinates to very proactive when it comes to any publicity regarding them. Now I doubt Rohm ordered police to get rid of as much footage as possible but much of any government management serves at the pleasure of the mayor, governor etc. If the mayor gets tossed so do many in the chain of command, the same chain command that would protect officers like this. The same officers that are also expected to ignore things like a dui or drug possession on friends & family of politicians.

But yep, Rohm scapegoated the chief. I'm sure there will be some retribution and accusations.

Depending on how deep the investigation goes (or is allowed to go) a lot of rats may be found. I have seen some really bad investigations and some good investigations. If politics are allowed to make their presence, then investigations can become stymied. When I was assigned to protect one of our Governors for two years, I was privy to be able to listen to some of his phone calls. I must say that for the most part, I was very proud of our Governor at that time, although he did disappoint me during one very critical event that happened during his tenure. But then again, there were many differences of opinions on how that event should have been handled.

I think corruption and corrupt people so infest an organization business or government that it is frequently lower level employees that do much of the covering up along with the deeds. I think they call institutionalized or systemic corruption. Business as usual. One head or two heads will not fix the problem here or in other places.

These cover-ups, cold-blooded muders and corruption in the government and the police force have been going on forever, they're unlawful, abusive and need to stop. I'm glad at least some things are coming to light, so the citizens and reputable officials know what they're dealing with...disgraceful. http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2015/12/07/3727519/chicago-police-burge-scandal/

Precisely the reason I left my birthplace back in Chicago-land forever. It's not cynically called "Crook County" for nothing. imp

Ahahahahahah Quitter!! What's the matter... your delicate sensibilities offended?

I SOOOOOOO hope they hang Emanuel though.. I have always hated him.... He certainly is no Democrat... much more Republican IMO... a real DINO. The people who voted for him got exactly what they deserved.... I sure wish I could vote in Chicago.

QS, you did the work for me. I hesitated to bemoan Emmanual, as I feared your reaction might be the opposite of mine. If you read my short synopsis of the video cover-up, I'll add one more tidbit: Emmanual was not eligible to become Mayor, as it was a well-known and publicized fact that he owned income-producing properties in Chicago, well before he left Washington. Ran away, elected, TRUTH unimportant, cover-ups ever THE MOST important.

I can appreciate being called a quitter. It was more economics, actually. The Cook County Assessor placed valuation on the new Prudential Building at $20 million, for property tax purposes. The Tribune produced documentation and exposed the crook: real value $120 million, how much dough slid under the table to the Assessor was anybody's guess. Came election time...........guess what? The scoundrel was re-elected, instead of going to prison! I reflected that had all those commercial interests been fairly taxed, my own property taxes could likely have been slashed.

So I left. imp

I heard no charges in a second shooting where a suspect was shot running away which also was caught on dash cam video. Suspects/Victim's lawyer says cover up included probably promoting at least one cop a few months after testimony that helped clear that cop.

The Pennsylvania State Police is experimenting with live transmissions using their dash cams. When a Trooper has his dash cam turned on, the Dispatcher will be able to watch live via using either cell phone technology or Wi Fi technology that is now being made available in some cars and/or some cameras. If a Trooper was going to make a vehicle stop on the highway, he/she would advise his Dispatcher and also turn on his dash cam, if it wasn't already turned on. During the stop, the Dispatcher is able to view the event as it is happening and if any problem would arise that places the Trooper in jeopardy, the Dispatcher could get the Trooper added help immediately, whether it be back up or EMT support much quicker than waiting for the Trooper to request the same.

All Good Ideas

Real-time viewing from centralized location, real good idea, IMO. Problem might be in big metro areas, for example, with hundreds of dash cams viewable all at once, how do a few dispatchers choose which to view?

Big capital outlay during times of tight budgets. Too much criminal activity going on, in addition to highway patrolling. imp
