What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

I saw The Nun last night. It was a bit formulaic but had some good jump scares, and no gore. I hadn't realized it was part of The Conjuring universe. I'll probably watch The Nun II tonight.

We watched The Conjuring: Last Rites a few nights ago. It was pretty good -- not great, but entertaining.
That film has one of the best jump scares I've ever seen; several people in the theater actually screamed, and I literally rose out of my seat a bit. But I agree with your "pretty good -- not great, but entertaining" assessment. I was a bit disappointed.

Speaking of jump scares, here's a pretty good one:
That is a good one! 😮 I just watched that movie a few months ago, around Halloween.

The Nun II was pretty good, too, although I found the last 30 minutes dragged and could have been edited down to a shorter sequence. My mind was starting to wander.

Excellent script.

I kept thinking I might be disappointed if the story took a wrong turn. But it doesn't.
I'll guess that Crawford's character, Harriet Craig, was not too far from the way Crawford was in real life. ICBW, but I recall that she was kind of a bee-itch.

Also available on YouTube for free is this 1936 version (7.2/10 IMDB Rating) starring Rosalind Russell.

An interesting contrast in the way Crawford and Russell play the part. Also a different telling of the story in each case.

Billie (The Good Witch in OZ) Burke plays the next door neighbor.

Monty Wooley is one of the best actors in movies.

I never saw this movie before so it was a complete surprise in terms of story.

Some of the same child actors used in "It's A Wonderful LIfe"

And like Wonderful Life, it takes place at Christmas and has an angel who figures prominently in the story.

But unlike Wonderful Life, it's story has no realistic aspects to it. It's more like Bewitched.

I'd put The Bishop's Wife in the top 5 Christmas movies of all time.
The attraction between the Loretta Young and Cary Grant characters almost amounts to an affair...:)

It has a magical quality to it which draws in the viewer. Not many actors could have pulled off that story.

Incredible story full of unusual twists and turns. A little slow until everyone gets on the train. Then it picks up quickly.

Very entertaining.1000007563.jpg

The Nice Guys (2016)

For nearly 40 years writer/director/actor Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) has helmed several landmark buddy action comedies. The Nice Guys is one of his best.

Set in a fanciful Los Angeles, a low level P.I. (Ryan Gosling) has a rough introduction to an enforcer (Russell Crowe), who is equally low level. They soon team up to track down a missing girl who is an air quality protester that is working on a film combining pornography and investigative journalism which stars a famous porn star who died under suspicious circumstances. During their pursuit they’re somewhat aided by the P.I.’s young teenaged daughter, Holly (played by the adorable Angourie Rice).

The story weaves in and out, introducing layer after layer of culpability, through Shane Black’s complex maze of a plot. Along the way we’re treated to non stop forms of comedy from slapstick, to sight gags, to good old witty banter. In fact the chief draw of this picture is the delightful chemistry between Gosling and Crowe, whose antics together and singly land just about every time.

It’s hard to imagine a better pairing. Gosling with his boyish affability, light-heartedness, and ease with comedy is reminiscent of the Donald O’Connor of the 1940s and ‘50s; whereas Crowe’s charisma and masculinity comes across the way William Holden’s did. It’s a masterstroke of casting.

The one drawback is the frequent use of foul language which not only doesn’t add anything to the film, but tends to stick out and somewhat compromise it. The movie did carry an “R” rating, but with not much effort, polishing up some of the “R” qualifiers could have resulted in a “PG” rating which would have allowed a wider audience to enjoy the script.

Nevertheless The Nice Guys keeps the viewer chuckling from start to finish, making for an enjoyable 2 hours.

Doc’s rating: 8/10

I couldn't agree more, OldFeller! IMO it's one of Hitchcock's best of his pre- move to America films. I was astounded when I first saw it, and have enjoyed it several times since.

There haave been several remakes, but to my taste none had the impact and suspense of Hitchock's original.

We watched The Exorcist III this evening. It was good -- mainly because of George C. Scott's performance. Much of the movie was more of a thriller than a horror movie, but there were a couple good old fashioned horror scenes, too! We had already seen it, but it quite a while ago and I didn't remember much of it... just a few little bits.
