Health care in the US has gone down the toilet.

@StarSong what Mack and I are talking about is totally different from what you're getting done. I see my PC every 6 months, all that you have done, I have done at that time. That ridiculous annual wellness was on top of those six month visits. And I'm not exaggerating when I say ridiculous. Doc asks if you're depressed? How are you eating? Do you fall? He checks off the answers and then we're done.
And then you should ask "How much are you getting paid for this?"

Well I'll tell ya, we had quite the argument in that exam room that one day. I was so mad! I tried to get him to give me some exact examples but because his notes are so shoddy he couldn't do it so he refused to "cherry pick" as he called it. When I went back through some of his comments and tried to tell him what was what he called me a liar. Told me I was pissing him off. So I shot it right back at him. I only go for my two 6 month appts a year now.

If I need help in between I either go to urgent care or the ER. And when they tell me to do a follow up treatment I don't. Reason being if I do and he doesn't agree about seeing me they call and tell me they've cancelled it. So I don't even bother following up anymore. The docs here get to decide who they will or won't take on. None of them wanted me except him. The only other clinic in town isn't on our covered provider list.
What a mess. Do you have one of those policies so that you're locked into your current health whatever you call them.

I have made scathing comments on the healthcare industry Stateside and have been told to back off because I;m not American. That has been topped off with meaningless rhetoric in defense of said industry.
Maybe now the message from within will be listened to...
Maybe not because you live in the disunited states!
I'm linking from your post because I like the word you used 'industry.' Too accurate.

A person may be fortunate to find an exception or two, but virtually the entire 'healthcare' field has become nothing but money-grubbing pill-pushers that work for the pharmaceutical companies.
They don't care jack about people/patients.

It's not an HMO but if I go to the other clinic it's out of network and I can't afford to pay for office visits that way.

I saw my doctor this morning for my regular semi-annual visit and to go over my blood work. All was okay. I told him I've seen posts in a senior forum that some members had been discharged, fired, or whatever, by their doctors for "non-compliance" (not getting recommended procedures, failure to adhere to certain diets, medications, etc.).

I asked him for his policy on this. He said he believed in patient autonomy - the right of patients to make their own informed decisions about medical care without undue influence from healthcare providers. He said the only times he has taken action such as a dismissal happened in cases when he knew or had reason to believe a patient was knowingly living a lifestyle harmful to their families or others and / or serious drug use, but refused help. He was also disappointed with patients who refused vaccines to their young children, but did not say he would refuse to see them anymore for that reason.

I like your doc. You've got a good one.

I've never experienced a doctor answering his/her own phone. Not in the late 60s, 70s, 80s or anytime thereafter. Rare indeed were the times when a receptionist put me through. The usual protocol was for them to take a message and call me back within a day or two with instructions for me to come in or to have the pharmacy call for a prescription.

I've experienced a dramatic improvement in health care over the years.

Some time back, I mentioned how my dr had perscribed some meds to me, that when taken together, had the chance to put you in a coma or die. (something he wasn't even aware of). What a journey trying to find another dr. Seems to be plenty of incompetentance to go around. Example... Latest dr. Wife has been suffering with severe anxiety for several months now.

Dr visits, blood tests, we've done it all. Nothing... not a word... instead, they made her an appointment for a month from now. I can't get her to leave the house or property. How will I get her to a Dr? Today was the worst. (sitting in the dark and suffering involuntary twitching of her arms and legs. So, I call them and explain that it seems to be getting worse by the day and is there anyway to check what the latest blood test shows.

After the usual 3 different call transfers, and the usual "what's your insurance" bs, I finally get through to the Dr's assistant. Explain everything AGAIN and she say's they will get back to me today. Come in from picking up a delivery at my door and find a voice mail. "we understand that you're wife is concerned about you and we're checking your bloodwork now. o_O  Shit... I guess the search will go on.

This is why I have latrophobia.

I live in Palm Beach, Florida in an ocean front home. I don’t need this monster of a home and am looking to move, maybe to Hawaii with my son and grandson. I have very good healthcare here. I can get an appointment usually within 24 hours. If I need an x-ray or bloodwork, I can have that taken care of also within 24 hours and mostly the same day, unless I have to fast for the bloodwork.

I have friends in the Tampa Bay Area and they have problems with getting an appointment with their PCP. They also have issues with getting an x-ray, but their bloodwork is done right in their doctor’s office, so I am guessing the doctor has a lab on site.
