This is where embracing "technology" in new vehicles leads to...

A short 8 minute video that should alarm you:

This is truly frightening.

I'm adding that I just read that the driver-less car is meant for taxis in large cities and US law still has regulations requiring a human driver. Still I wouldn't get into a taxi without a human driver anywhere in the world. Also I wonder how long it will take US law makers to change the law to allow this. There is so much else in this video that is and has been, as you say, alarming.

Well, ya barely tap these new poorly built 4 wheeled tablets and they are done. Plastic all over the street from a minor accident and gotta get carried away. So that will be useless and more expensive.

I'm torn on this one. While I really like many the features both safety and convenience. There are two features that give me pause. First there is the auto start and stop feature. I put up with it for a while on the first car we had with that feature. I found it so annoying that I bought an electronic device that disabled the function. Before doing this I checked the gas mileage for a period. After installing the device I checked the mileage for the same length of time. I couldn't find a difference that justified the annoyance.

The second and I think more important has to do with the locking features. Todays technology allows and array of settings. I finally settled on the option that makes locking on exit and getting out of range. The option to unlock upon approach still concerns me a little. Since it applies to all doors or none I think of situations when there could be threats as you approach and enter your vehicle. Not having to press buttons on the fob is nice. So when we are traveling or leaving our vehicle in an unfamiliar area I disable the feature.
