Last week I was throwing out stuff from one of my outhouses.

A big cardboard box with lampshades I've been meaning to chuck out I emptied, because a neighbour asked me for some of the lampshades. At the bottom of the box I found a set of grimy antimacassars, they were probably in the box as padding for something I bought on ebay.
I remembered my grannie having these sort of things on her armchairs and settees when I was a young sprout.
So when the lovely lady came for the lampshades I showed her the antimacassars and her eyes lit up.
She asked me if she could clean them up for me (apparently the lace fabric needs to be cleaned in some careful way) and I told her she could have them.

She called me over to her house earlier and proudly showed me the antimacassars on her 3 piece suite, they looked stunning.

I'm going back over ther shortly for a special dinner she's preparing. Yum yum, this is what I call a result. 😊
I;m not surprised about the Antimaassars ...lace ones do need gentle treatment... but Antimacassars were used when I was a kid really to stop people's hair treatments from marking the furniture on the back of sofas/My father always wore brylcream for example.. and my aunties always had bouffants glued with ''laquer''...

In traditional Spanish and Italian houses where the owners are past 60.... Antimaassars are everywhere still...on everything...

..even today tho' people use them here .. but the name has changed, and instead they're called sofa back covers..or sofa arm covers et al...

Holly, my friend over the road told me that it took her a whole day to carefully hand wash the lace and dried them on her big table in her lounge with an assortment of towels.
Anyway, I applaud her, because she transformed what I at first thought were rags into things of beauty.
She told me that they are quite old and skillfully made.
I'm chuffed for her. 😊

She must have loved that gift!

I called the garage about an hour ago, because I'd received no call from them. They said they'd just had the tyre delivered, and they had to put it on and then retest the car. They know the car only needed a tyre after it passed yesterday .. it had passed on evrything else.. but the law says they have to retest.. so they told me the car won't be ready for another couple of hours...

Highly frustrating for me, because it meant I had to cancel my physio today.. which I've waited 6 weeks for.:(

While I've been waiting I've been trying to connect my new Bluetooth wireless keyboard.. but I can't get it to connect, even after watching youtube vids.. 😕

Morning all, on my early walk, it was cold 45, lightly raining as I strolled around the building once before breakfast. Its going to be cloudy, rain on/off day temps maybe near 50
I have no plans ,good day to some more shredding, ck out today's lunch/dinner menu, read today's NYT,after dinner tackle the crossword puzzle. Tonight at 8pm on PBS "Nature'Life on Earth' David Attenborough's Greatest Adventures', then I'll switch to watch part of Game 1 Sabres vs Canadiens on TNT
Everybody have a good day

It's now late afternoon.. and I'm not long back from what seems to have been a pretty eclectic day so far.:D

I got a bus down to the garage, I weighed it up.. the Uber would cost me £15.00... the bus is free... and the bus would just take another 10 minutes longer to get there... . I did have to walk about 1/2 a mile from the bus stop to the mechanics shop... but that's no a problem I needed the exercise...
I often forget just how much people chat here at the bus stop. this is where I live specifically and not England.. and just in a few minutes waiting for the bus I got one guy's medical history as he was waiting to catch the bus to the hospital.. lol

Anyway One new clean bill of health for another year.. for my car.. a new Tyre, and the labour to fit it.... £117.00 ... plus I bought a £20 gift card to give to my postman as a thank you.. so I didn't think that was too bad... the MOT itself is £50.00

After I collected the car... I drove to North London to return a Rugby shirt to the store which was too big.... then to the farm shop on my return for milk and duck eggs..

... such a pity I couldn't get to the Physiotherapy appt...

A friend and I check oin each other daily by phone. Today I missed his call and called him back within a couple of minutes No amswer. For the next three hours he didn't answer either of his phones. Worried, I finally called a contact number and left a message. He called and said he hadn't wanted to call earlier just to say he was on his way out with some friends. That is exactly what he should have done. I had pictured him at the bottom of the stairs in a pool of blood.

We will have to make some new rules.

My son picked me up after work to drive me close to where his job is so I could look at cabinets and countertops at this shop owned by Sam, a man our co-op's main contractor Noel highly recommended. They've done remodeling projects together for a long time. Noel said the cost of the remodel is a very good price. I took a look around (not a whole lot of choices) and will take a couple of days to decide.

Over the past week or so, my sleep has been severely disrupted. I was so tired that I was yawning almost the whole way there (about a 20 minute drive). On the way back, we stopped at Wawa's. I got a root beer and Entenmanns coffee cake. Had the cake with coffee when I got home, promptly fell asleep and slept for almost 6 hours.

Morning all, on early walk at 6:50, temp was 49 as I walked twice a around the building, birds were chirping loudly as I strolled by
My plans today, I've invited our former associate pastor at our church, Elena for lunch at 12:15. We've been trying to set this up for awhile. She was the leader of our volunteer church team along with, other local Presbyterian church volunteers to D'Iberville, Mississippi in 2006.We were there for a week in Jan helping residents after Hurricanes Katrina&Rita nearly destroyed their small town. I look forward to seeing her
The rest of my day, read today's NYT, having weekly dinner in the dining room with the guys at 5:30
Everybody have a good day

I am pretty excited today.

I took delivery of a new music purchase, a new recording of Philip Glass' Einstein on the Beach, with Suzanne Vega narrating and ICTUS performing the music. This was released on Vinyl (the set is three discs) in a limited set of 200, of which I got 132. Honestly though, I didn't think I was going to be able to get a copy at all, since they sold quite fast. That said, there is a CD version also, and that's more available.

Either way, I'm going to wait for a special moment to indulge in this. Sometimes a record isn't just another piece of music, and this is such a case for me.

It's cold out today, 41°F/5°C!!! 1778155982576.png

I'm going to get to see my "real" doctor later today, instead of the usual APN. He's going to go over my bloodwork results, and (hopefully) have some ideas about what is going on with my back.

Other than that, I'll hit the gym (it's very close to the doctors office), and head home.

Good morning
