I don't know whether it's worse to get ghosted or

Sometimes commerce is more like a social experiment in patience and disappointment. But honestly, I think the real villain here isn’t ghosting or excuses. It’s the mysterious species known as “I’m on my way” who lives 37 minutes away and never leaves the couch. And maybe Marketplace should just auto-respond with a popup that says, “This person will disappoint you in approximately 2 to 48 hours." 🤷‍♂️

I never give out my phone number to someone I don't know, and I always conduct the transaction on the front porch where there are a lot of houses close by. Today I finally sold the rest of the houseplants. The buyer was responsive and just a little late, understandable if she wasn't familiar with the area. She even gave me $5 more than I asked.

In this day and age, I wouldn’t give a stranger my address and invite them into my home over a couple of dollars.

Even when they don’t show up they still have your telephone number, address, etc…

I wouldnt feel comfortable with that either. No way would I have a yard sale. I do NOT want people coming to my house.
I probably have more than ten times as much stuff to get rid of thanks to the husband and his love of on line auctions.
I have slowly been culling the hoard. I need to look things up before I dispose of them and this takes time.
So far I have sent a few trailer loads to auction. And given some to Good Will and put some out front.

I've never had a garage or yard sale in the years I've lived in my present home. Clothes and items like that which I no longer want, I donate to the Salvation Army thrift store. When I need to replace furniture or appliances, I buy from places that agree to "haul off" the old item that's being replaced.

As for decorative items such as pictures on the wall, glassware, or any such things, I don't ever plan to get rid of them. If I was 35 years old, I might want something newer (in time) but not at this point in my life. What I already have suits me fine.

Awhile back, I had to replace a small lamp that the switch no longer worked on. No one would want something that didn't work, so I threw it away into my regular trash.

I was selling an antique oak pump organ. I advertised its dimensions, how very very heavy it was, how you would have to have at least a pickup truck and 2-3 strong people to load it and that I COULD NOT help in any way (shoulder surgery and arm still in a sling).

The guy shows up alone, in a car and wants me to help put it IN HIS TRUNK. (Only if you took a chain saw to it first.)

I sent him off with a flea in his ear.....

I buy and sell on Facebook marketplace from time to time and have done enough of it that I understand how to play the game as both a buyer and a seller.

Sometimes too, if I want to get rid of something that’s too large or cumbersome to take to goodwill, I’ll offer it free on marketplace. It’s usually gone within an hour!

I didn't indicate the ASKING price, I referred to the SELLING price.
Yep.
And "There is no way you can even ASK what they ask for, yet alone sell that high."

No sense you looking at eBay, as you will NEVER get what those sellers are asking for and getting.
Apples and oranges....
