What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

I listened to a podcast about the real life story on which this movie was based, @Medusa. (It's my favorite podcast, called Against the Odds. They retell true stories of survival in narrative form, sort of like a novel, with sound effects and everything. I always listen when I make the 4-hour [one-way] drive to see my older daughter. I actually enjoy the drive now.)

I'll have look for this movie.
The movie was great! :)

Thank you for telling me about this podcast as it's just the kind of thing I like to listen to when I need to be drawn away. I've got it on my Spotify now. :)

ETA: They have it add-free on Audible. Awesome!

I watched Denial last night on Netflix, which is extremely apropos for these times but also a little depressing. Still, it had good characters and was well directed and acted.
IMO anything that the great Timothy Spall is in, is worth watching. I'm sure his role here was unpopular, but then again so was Frederic March's in Inherit the Wind (1960). Spall wowed me in 2014's Mr. Turner (about the English painter J.M.W Turner.

There's already been so much written about it that I won't go into detail.
I have to clarify this; what I meant was, everyone has probably seen Casablanca, so details would be superfluous. 🙃

I just saw Platoon. Wow. I'm probably one of the last people here to have watched that, too!

Now I'm ready for something light. In the past few weeks I've seen Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, and a 1947 Russian documentary on the Nuremberg trials that was truly gruesome. (Casablanca was a nice break, even though it's set in WWII.)

Time to switch it up a bit! Something silly, I think, or at least lighthearted.

I watched Michael (2026 film)
🎥
Description:
American musical biographical drama film directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan.
It follows the early life of American singer Michael Jackson, covering the period from his
involvement in the Jackson 5 in the 1960s to the Bad tour in the late 1980s.
Jackson is portrayed by his nephew Jaafar Jackson. He is the son of Jermaine Jackson.

My Daughter and I never argue. I mean never.
She got mad at me on the phone because I watched the movie.
She says that it is not right that they never mention him being a pedophile and that he bought his way out of that.
She said she refuses to watch it.

I said, the Movie clearly states that is about his early life from the 1960s to the 1980s,
and that she did not even watch it, so how would she know, also that it is still disputed
whether or not the facts about the children are true or if they were just after his money.
I admit he had some issues but I am not sure about all the other stuff.
I think he was talented and one of a kind.

She was really angry.

The coversation with my Daughter ruined the movie experience for me.
It is your choice if you want to watch it or not.

Just watched "Remarkably Bright Creatures" on Netflix, in part because i'm a big fan of Sally Fields and the trailer kind of hooked me. Several recognizable faces in it including Colm Meany who's best known for 2 different Star Trek series. Alfred Molina narrates. The character he voices is not human but interesting considering The villain he played in Spiderman movies.

But this is not a sci-fi movie, it is more of a sentimental family with rom-com elements fantasy that i enjoyed. And i don't usually have the patience for or give my undivided attention to movies longer than 90 minutes if there's not puzzle to unravel. i saw some of twists coming but the characters, narrator included, kept me engaged.

Saw it last night also...Loved it!
The way it all comes together at the end with 'Cameron' and 'Tova'

Ksav, if you haven't seen it (or even if you have), I'd recommend What's Up, Doc? (1972), directed by Peter Bogdanovich, starring Ryan O'Neal, Barbara Streisand, and with great performances by Madeline Kahn and Kenneth Mars. In my view it's one of the top 5 screwball comedies ever made.

It's impossible to watch this classic and not get several belly laughs. I must have seen it 6 times.

It's free to watch on TubiTV. I may check it out. Good IMDB rating.

I'll go add that right now.

I love Tubi. I started watching for the goofy horror movies, but it actually offers quite a variety of films. That's where I streamed Platoon. Tubi also has the 1943 Titanic Nazi propaganda film that was made, which previously had been unavailable.

Thanks for the recommendation, @ChiroDoc.

I noticed others talking about The Godfather.
Some already know, some may not..there are 3 Godfather movies.
I have seen them all. If you liked the first one, you may like the others.

The Godfather 1972

The Godfather Part II 1974

The Godfather Part III 1990

🎥

I read the history of The Godfather's life in Italy from when he was a child and how he came to America, and what happened up to the first movie. I was surprised and stunned by the backstory. I've watched bits and pieces of all 3 movies (I may have seen the entire 1st one) and read the plot summaries.

Great! Let us know what you thought of it.
I think I might have seen it before because I knew the "Love Means Never Having To Say You're Sorry" line at the end.

Do you think they had enough chase scene cliches?

I'm trying to remember another movie I saw that had a duffle bag mix up. Wait....Sylvester Stallone, Oscar.

This What's Up Doc movie made me laugh at some parts and Barbara Streisand was lovable but the whole second half was painful to sit through.

I'm suing IMDB for the false 7.6 rating it gave this. I would have given it 6.5 or less.

I did watch Dead Reckoning with Humphrey Bogart. That was another half-baked script trying to evoke The Maltese Falcon vibe. It even had the line about how a guy ought to do something when his partner is murdered.

Add to belly laughs Cramps In Your Cheeks from laughing so long and hard! One of my all time fave movies

I was watching some of Gone With the Wind. It was just too long, 4½ hours. So I went to bed. I've only seen it from start to finish, once in my life. It was as a teenager, in the local theater, which has been long since closed. This time around I noticed certain things I didn't when I was younger. White characters using the word "darkies". Prissy (black servant girl) getting slapped around when Scarlett got mad at her. What amazed me the most was all of the extras that were used in the movie. Try to imagine the cost of a movie like that, if it were filmed today.

I watched it once when I thought, as a film buff, I had to be familiar with some of the great classics in history. I was disappointed and still can't figure out what was so good about it. It was watchable. I didn't fall asleep, but I was bored and let down. I kept waiting for something to happen. I thought the ending presented the idea that everything in life even in the movies, is just a big waste of time. I want to believe there has to be more. Yes, it probably reflected someone's life, but no one I would want to hang with.

I always have Tubi running on the side of my computer screen...
Used Pluto for a long time, too, but it doesn't cooperate on my computer anymore.

I, too, often have Tubi on. They really do have a great selection.

I just started using Pluto, and Plex. My go-to is usually, not always, Prime, but I've learned to do a search on films and documentaries to see where they are available. For example, I've had Hereditary on my Amazon list, to pay for, but now I see that Tubi has it for free (with ads, of course, but I'm OK with that).

I just noticed last night that Tubi also has the original Beatles Anthology. I've been watching the 2025 re-release, which has some edits fans disagree with. So now I may start all over with the original.

Back to movies recently watched, I watched the 1986 "Sid and Nancy" biographical film. I didn't care for the first 30 minutes at all, and I almost bailed on it, but it's gotten such good reviews that I stuck it out, and I'm glad I did. Sid Vicious has always seemed like a lost little boy to me; my mother instinct kicks in big time.
