Would you like to do this? How about Grampa Stands?
I saw a tv documentary about how in South Korea, if elderly folks want one, the government provides them with an AI, chatbot doll that resembles about a 7 year old kid that they can have and interact with. It seemed like it really made these elderly ladies--didn't see any men with one--really happy. Many people just wish they had some type of connections, someone to talk to. They feel so lonely. Any way to give others emotional comfort, as well as ourselves, is a good plan. If there was one near me, I might make a little time to volunteer. I wouldn't have time to run one myself.
I like the play family Thanksgiving dinners too. Just a great way to help others not feel so lonely.
I saw a tv documentary about how in South Korea, if elderly folks want one, the government provides them with an AI, chatbot doll that resembles about a 7 year old kid that they can have and interact with. It seemed like it really made these elderly ladies--didn't see any men with one--really happy.
The tv host, however, said that she's skeptical of AI/Chatbots "connections" and wondered if it wouldn't be better for those elderly ladies to be paired with a real person like maybe another elderly lady. The South Korean replied, "You know, we tried that and it didn't work well at all, maybe because the ladies didn't share enough interests? Anyway, the dolls work a lot better." The tv host chuckled and said, "You know, I have an elderly mother who doesn't like anybody. Maybe I should get her one of these dolls."
Another reason why maybe the dolls work better with the elderly is something I read about in an article by an M.D. who's a gerontologist. He said that he did his residency attending to the elderly in nursing homes and he noticed that the residents didn't talk to each other much at all; they talked a lot to him, the staff they liked, and visitors but not each other.
When he asked why, they all told him stuff like, "You know when I first moved in here, Doc, I'd talk to the other residents but I stopped because you kind of get friendly with somebody (or at least make an interesting-to-argue-with enemy, lol) and then a few days later, they're not there anymore because they've passed away. People are being carried out of here with sheets over their face all the time, Doc. So it just got to be too sad to do that."
So the MD said that's why he decided to specialize in gerontology because he saw these poor nursing home residents being so lonely because to protect themselves, they had to kind of consider the other residents to not exist.
They say it's really good for everybody to have a goal and I wish I could make that my goal: stay out of a skilled nursing home as long as possible.
Actually I can't because my Huzz refuses to do any of the things I think we need to do. I'm afraid of ending up like another elderly couple on our street who both went into skilled nursing at the same time and had to sell their house for next to nothing since the upkeep of it had gotten to be too much for them and it had gotten pretty run down. Oh, well, maybe they got so little for it that they qualified for Medic-Aid.You can make staying out of a skilled nursing home as long as possible your goal.
