Do you think all schools should allow students to wear jeans to class?

I think any school or business can set a dress code.
While in general jeans are widely accepted, there are exceptions.

At one job they allowed jeans and had to take that back as they were not in good condition or looked too worn or unprofessional. The dress code said clean and in good condition but so many wanted to argue the point.
Just got back from a work conference they paid to fly us there, provided hotel for 3 days all meals and a few people decided they could wear jeans on last day. They did not get in trouble exactly but believe me it was noted they could not follow simple instruction of NO jeans.
 
Huh? Schools have dress codes that ban jeans??? Do you mean private schools with perhaps uniforms or public schools?

When my daughter was in high school, they disallowed jeans with holes in them. She had ripped a pair of her jeans, it was the "in" thing then, wore them over leggings so no skin showed. At 8:30 am, I received a call from the school that she had been pulled from class, I needed to come get her to change clothes. When I arrived, I met with the principal (a man) and questioned it. He said it was a distraction for the boys.

My response was "On Fridays, the girls on the cheer squad and dance teams wear those short little skirts with ruffled panties, low cut tops, and parade around all day exposing LOTS of skin. That isn't a distraction? Why is that allowed?" I also told him they were using sex (the cheer/dance teams) to sell violence (football). He said there was a committee of parents who made the dress code and perhaps I should get on that committee. I told him I would do that. Have someone call me. Never did get a call.

Edited to Add: The principal's three daughters were on the dance team...

Replying to my own post, lol.

After posting this, I txtd my daughter and asked if she remembers that incident. She responded that she still has those jeans!!! In a box with all kinds of other "high school crap". LMAO!

A North Carolina school district just proposed a ban on all “tight pants” — including skinny jeans — that’s left many students wondering what the hell they’re actually allowed to wear next year.
 
Jeans seem to be acceptable most places now, even in churches, and it's been that way a long time. I remember years - going well back in time - when I worked in a prefessiona office - we had to dress up except for "casual Fridays" when jeans were okay. Then a few years later, they were okay any day, and dress codes in most places became more relaxed.

I see no reason why students should be restricted from wearing jeans, unless, as some posts have suggested, they are riddled with holes, or otherwise indecent - then the school will have to clarify guidelines. There are always some students who test the waters.
 
I can understand the meaning for some schools to have a uniform but even then the part of
trying to make differences in income and outside social status does not make them treat everyone
equally as peers.
In schools with casual dress codes I agree on the no rips and tears in them. That is often taken to limits
that are way too extreme. Teens are going to push limits, I know my class did and we had to still yet wear
dress or skirts. It's back to teaching them there are rules in life, learn to live with it. No rules would be
utter chaos.
 
IMO Yes, they should be allowed to wear jeans. If I go to the county courthouse most of the clerks, regardless of office are wearing jeans.

Sure the students clothes should fit into some sort of guidelines, but those should be established and distributed in advance of the start of the school year.

If this isn't enough for some, then provide unisex uniforms at no additional cost to the students. The cost of the uniforms could be paid for by reducing the administrator(s)' salaries.
 
As I was a student in the 1960s and 1970s my schools didn't have dress codes. During summer the teenage boys wore shorts, the girls miniskirts with sheer pantyhose. I still remember how proud the girls were of their hosiery. I even remember one of the girls with tan pantyhose and knee high white laced boots as if it was yesterday. Her name was Elke. I was 13 years old at that time and never forgot her.

Of course students should be allowed to wear jeans.

As I considered the question, I wasn't thinking of school districts that require uniforms. I believe Texas has some of those. Certainly in those juridictions, only uniforms are allowed, which tends to suppress individuality, but may otherwise be a means to overcome needless disruptions from inapporporiate clothing.
 
Well, today, anything goes I guess. In my day, no jeans were permitted and we girls all had to wear skirts or dresses.

Since my high school was a very large sending district school, we had some kids who came from farms and that made it a problem for them. Since most were taking courses involving a vocational future, at some point, those students could wear jeans to school. They had chores to attend to as soon as they arrived home.
 
Jeans are fine as long as they’re decent.

If a private school has rules or a uniform, that’s what they/their parents who are paying the big tuition are accepting.
 
During my time in high school, we weren’t allowed to wear jeans, unless the student lived on a farm and had chores to do before going to school in the morning. He needed a note from a parent and approval from the Principal. The rest of us wore polyester and cotton and maybe a wool sweater in the winter.
