Is Waxed Paper Passé?

I haven't even looked for waxed paper in decades. My son uses parchment paper often. In fact, I used some about an hour ago to line the tin I used to heat my pizza. Since we still don't have a kitchen sink, it eliminated the need to wash it out. Since parchment paper holds up under heat and is similar to wax paper, it may be a good substitute. I've gotten a couple from Dollar Tree and see no difference in quality from the ones my son gets at the supermarket (for more money, of course).

Funny how sometimes a thought comes into your head, and shortly thereafter it comes up in a conversation or ??

I buy rolled butter that is wrapped in wax paper; not the little pieces like quartered butter, rather a large sheet of it. Just the other day, I was thinking of using it for something else, maybe wrapping left-overs?

I have a roll of waxed paper that I'd bet I've had for 20 years. That's about how often I use it.

The last time I used any was when the Littles and I were ironing some colorful fall leaves I had brought home from a trip to try to preserve them. We used to seal them between two pieces of waxed paper when I was a kid, but maybe waxed paper isn't as waxed as it used to be?

Actually you just gave me a good idea. I haven't thought about it in years but grew up using it and although plastic wrap is more convenient, forgot about all things I could use waxed paper for. I'm going to keep some around.

I had to look up the meaning of passé.
Passé (pronounced pass-AY) is an adjective that describes something that is out-of-date, old-fashioned, or no longer fashionable. It is typically used with a disapproving or slightly critical tone to refer to trends, ideas, or customs that are past their prime.

I think parchment paper is more popular than using wax paper. Wax paper IS somewhat passé but Is still around. They are different things for different uses.

One of things I use wax paper for is putting it on the counter when I am making burgers or cutting up some meat. I do not use it to wrap because I process the meat in a vacuum packer. I put squares of wax paper (that I cut) in between burgers when I put more than one in the vacuum packer bag. I put squares of wax paper between the chaffles I make and store in the freezer. Parchment paper I use for cooking. A roll of wax paper lasts me a long time.

When I had a family to feed, I did that same thing. Somehow, I quit doing that. Thanks for the reminder because I will restart that so when I thaw a pound of ground meat, I won't have to have that for the next four meals.
