Texting Merry Christmas wishes...?

I’ve received a few Merry Christmas text messages, and while I appreciate the thought I personally would prefer a short phone call vs a text. Sure, we’re all busy, but….I think Christmas and birthdays are a good opportunity to touch base via actual voice (vs text or email). A call - even a voicemail - has a personal touch, imo.

If I want to hear from my "younger" relatives, you can bet your Bippy it'll be a text. If you voice call them, they won't answer. If you text, they will. I've found that calling them and leaving the message "Did you get the check?" will usually get a call back right away, especially if I haven't sent a check - LOL.

I think it's an age thing...however if you're over thirty, a phone call or voice message is much more personal.

You need to catch up with the youngsters (anyone under 50). Texting is their thing, but be happy they thought of you AC!!

Phone calls are fine if all your relatives and friends are in the same country. Mine are around the world.

I agree...I've had 2 calls this morning already....one from Europe and the other from New Zealand...it's more thoughtful, just as quick as making a text message...and it can be very cheap... as little as a couple of pennies a minute if you ring through a reduced cost service. The only texts I welcome on Christmas day are those from my profoundly deaf family.. but then I also get follow up online electronic Christmas cards from them too...

Still, on the flip side, it's better to get a text from anyone, than nothing at all.......

Thank heavens for FaceTime. We spent an hour talking to our kids in Japan last night. It was already Christmas for them as they are 14 hours ahead of us. The other kids will be calling on the phone, or FaceTime sometime today.

I Skyped my granddaughters and others in my family in the US from Thailand this morning (xmas eve dinnertime for them). Skyped hubby's grandson in Scotland a short time ago. Going to watch my granddaughters open their gifts shortly since it's evening here and xmas morning for them. I'd love to Skype friends in Uganda but their internet is far too slow for Skyping. I can Skype inlaws in Australia as well.

It is a great feature, Annie. Remember years ago that someone predicted that we would be able to talk and see the person at the same time? At the time, I thought never in my lifetime.

I find a phone call at xma nice from a very close relative or friend, but emails and texts OK from those on the periphery -- otherwise there are too many interruptions during cooking and festivities and I think people are aware of that.
