Do you dress up for Christmas?

I've always been causal for Christmas. Today I put on a nice blouse and earrings but also green sweat pants and sneakers. My husband, brother, and I are all having a nice quiet day with yummy food. Our 2nd oldest son and his extended family gets all dressed (even suits and ties) on Christmas Eve and have a nice dinner and then Santa comes in and passes out gifts. I think that's nice. Our youngest son also goes to his wife's family for Christmas Eve and gift exchange. They dress nice but I noticed in the photo he wasn't wearing a tie. Today our kids in LA will all eat at our daughter's. Not sure how they'll dress but here is a picture of our son-in-law this morning. I'm a good Mother-in-law and don't ask questions. :)

No we don't it was 40c here Christmas Day we would be sweltering ,we would end up a greasy spot on the floor :laugh: Many choose to just go to the beach / river for a BBQ if they live near a beach or river
 
No, I don't dress up. I wore jeans and a shirt but last year, I wore sweat pants with a Christmas sweat shirt. I just go comfortable and too me dressing up isn't comfortable.
 

I'm just staying home with hubby today, so I'm in sweatpants and a tee shirt. We'll be having some grilled lamb chops and homemade creamed spinach, rhubarb pie for dessert either with or without heavy cream. Your son in law looks like he misses the Easter bunny this time of year, seems like a fun loving fella, good for your daughter. :)
 
LOL Linda...a Pink Bunny???? I think I would have asked questions... :rofl:

We usually dress up for Christmas because we almost always go out on Christmas day for a drink at the pub with some friends...but this year Hubs is recovering from a Malady and can't drink ...so we stayed home, and both just wore Sweatpants and jumpers ..very casual day dress today.

This couldn't have been posted at a better time. I'm going to my son's Sunday for his Christmas party. Family, friends and in-laws of others. We always dressed semi casual. A nice buttoned casual shirt and slacks or jeans.
The women, a nice top and pants. I have outgrown all of my button shirts except one old one. I just bought some brand new long sleeved tees of some unknown material. Slight shine to it. Perfectly plain. No pockets. Solid colors. They fit me perfectly and are the most comfortable things I've ever worn. I have a dark green and a red one. I also have a brand new bright red sweatshirt that looks good and fits perfect. I am thinking of wearing one or the other with a pair of slacks, or maybe even solid black sweat pants. If I do, it will be quite a different look for me. Not sure if it would be appropriate. I think I look good in them, but they are one step up from pajamas. They may think the old guy is losing it. Which I am. So any thoughts from you guys?
 
I've enjoyed hearing the variety of ways we are all dressing for Christmas.

Underrock1, I think it's great you are dressing different now and in a more comfortable way. I hope you wear one of your colorful long tees to your son's Christmas party. Sometimes us oldsters need to shake up the young ones a bit! :) Instead of slacks I hope you wear the sweat pants.

Really I wasn't that surprised at my son-in-law's bunny suit. They've worn costumes before. I'm glad he and my daughter found each other as they both enjoy life. They didn't meet till they were in their 40s. Both their daughter's are more conservative though. Years ago he hosted a Mr. Potato Head TV show from Universal Studios and he's used to wearing costumes. My granddaughter bought an exact replica of a human skeleton to help her in her art classes and he quickly became part of the family and I'm even used to him now. His name is Reginald and he lives in the living room or dinning room and this season is decked out in Christmas lights and a pretty crown. It's always fascinating to visit their house and it's quite a bit different than mine. :)
 
For so many years I dressed strictly two piece practical. I realize between all the kids I was nursing someone or another for a bit more than ten years. Now it's fun to wear a one piece dress and tights...yeah live a little
 
Nice casual is what I usually wore. I accompanied hubby to mass here xmas morning and had bought myself a skirt to wear. Also wore it afterwards to lunch but by dinnertime I was into capris.

We dress up for Christmas Eve. Christmas Day is casual and comfy. I enjoyed a sleepy, cozy day by the fire with doggie on my lap dreaming away. I love being HOME on Christmas Day and after a few phone calls in the morning it's just a dreamy day. We took one long walk though. :)
 
Thanks for the advice, Linda. I'm going to blame it on you. As I said before, your daughter's family sound like my kind of people.
I have acquired a number of costumes and hats over the years.
If you can't have fun, what's the point?:woohoo:
 
Ameriscot, I'm glad you posted a photo of yourself from today. You look very pretty. I haven't worn a dress or skirt in years but my daughter gave me one and I'm sort of thinking about trying it on and see what I think. :)

Underrock1, don't worry, just tell your family an old lady on the internet is now giving you fashion advise. :)
 
Not until this year.

My wife always did, from our first Christmas together it was always full make up and best dress, or once we could afford it, hairdo and new dress.

As this year was the first on my own I dressed up as a small remembrance.

Thanks, Linda. I like to occasionally wear a skirt or dress to feel 'girly'. :) I'm looking for another more casual one as they can be cooler than shorts or capris with the breezes!
 
My youngest Grandson gave me this tie in 2011...Now I have to wear it every year..He picked it out himself I love it and his smile every Christmas when he sees it..

So now we know what's been hiding behind those dark glasses. You look great, Annie. There is something to be said for dressing up. Like the star on top of your head too! :laugh:
 
Years ago, we always dressed up for Christmas Eve and a big dinner at my friend's and also Christmas Day to dinner at the in-laws's. Gradually, this all stopped, now just wear regular clothes.

No dress up here, only for employment interviews and funerals. Strictly faded Levis and some kind of all cotton shirt.

Linda, I must ask: what type of device did you take that photo with? The quality is just superior!
 
Son and daughter were in sweats and tees, granddaughters were in their PJs; I wore cords and a sweater with
a gold brooch which is a sleigh filled with green and red gifts which I have had for over 40 years. Gone are
the days when everyone dressed for Christmas.
