Oh, yes, The Winter Dance Party held at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. How many times have we heard about how lucky Waylon Jennings was that he lost the flip of the coin to be able to ride in the fateful airplane flown by a pilot that had no experience with instrument readings. The pilot was taught by the same instructor that also taught the pilot that crashed Jim Reeves's airplane, which was Jim Reeves, who was experiencing spatial disorientation, just like John Kennedy, Jr. at the time of his crash. Did Waylon flip the coin? There has been so many different versions that no one can say with 100% certainty who did what.
I have always maintained that if Holly had stayed alive and continued in the music business, we may have never had the British Invasion. Teens were looking for a new sound with rebellious overtones and although Holly's music did not offer the latter, his music was offering a different sound. Just like with Phil Spector, Holly was an innovator in the music business. His type of music, beat, rhythm and vocal was different from anything else being played at the time.
