A Vermont college is going to ban the sale of energy drinks on campus. The student can still buy them but off campus. They say it leads to bad behavior and habits.

I frequently hear or see stories of college age kids mixing alcohol and energy drinks having problems. This is where the real danger is, I think more so than 'high risk sexual behavior' which is an issue on to it's own.

Some are all upset oh their rights but the students still have the right to buy elsewhere AND still use on campus.

I don't know about the sexual behavior issue but those drinks are bad enough on their own without mixing them with alcohol.

I tried one once when I was out all night on a Black Friday. :) Never again. I thought I would have a heart attack. There is just too much caffeine in most of them. True that my heart isn't as healthy as a college student's but they are not a good idea.

Add alcohol and you have a very bad mix.

Besides the partying aspect of energy drinks and alcohol many people who take energy drinks are frequently in a state of agitation. This could lead to stress which could lead to fights, arguments or lack of patience and even suicide. The college said they didn't want a culture of stress I think it was.

It would be hard to ban them from getting the drinks off campus but maybe they should think about a solution to these energy drinks like the banning of them all together but then that might lead them to banning coffee too. lol

Make them like cigarettes, have to show ID as being over 21 to buy them.

There's one (and now a few off-brand copies) that uses vitamins B6 and B12 rather than caffeine as the primarily energy booster. It's 5-hr Energy, and for me, it's the Holy Grail. I don't use it every day. I drink one shot on days when I feel too depressed or extremely fatigued (due to pain and liver and blood problems). It gets me through those bad days, and doesn't disturb my sleep any more than my regular medications do. I have recently discovered an alternative - B vitamin injections - and plan to discuss this treatment with my doctor.

Students (or anyone) who mix alcohol with energy drinks are fools. Students who use an energy drink to get through a night of intense study are doing what they gotta do. What they should do, of course, is find out what how they can use food (i.e., a more natural method) to get the energy they need. That said, for full time students under pressure, the occasional boost-in-a-can is a necessary *evil*.

I've been taking B vitamins for decades, excellent choice. In an instant gratification & fad based society the fact they can't boast they had an energy drink if they do something as mundane as take a vitamin. The problem with college kids and energy drinks is unlike in decades past where a student might take a couple No Doz the night before a final or term paper they seem to be doing these things year round with much more regularity so the side effects will catch up much faster. Heck they put those small bottled energy drinks right at the checkout counter next to the candy bars at many stores partly so no one thinks about buying it since they are set up as impulse buys.

Oh duh'oh...next the food police will come for the snack cakes. Have you ever seen the calorie content of those yummy bear claws? Like 675, 000 calories in one snarf. It's just going to boost sales of Adderall in my opinion. Now speed kills, we know that from back in hippie days. Sure hyper doses of caffeine are unhealthy. But in moderation I would say keep the original size of Red Bull for sale. But the super caffeinated and super sized ban from production period.

I remember the effects though. Remember those over the counter diet pills they used to have? Buzzy ears much? But one time my middle daughter shared her drink. I think the brand was NOS. It looked like pool cleaner, tasted sickly and the can was one serving big enough for four. That kind of beverage is total crap.
