Female tennis super star Maria Sharapova got caught cheating with a drug that has been banned in the Olympics and used by the Russian military in the 1980s during their invasion of Afghanistan. Apparently it is still popular in Russian and Latvian hockey circles. She said she didn't realize it was a banned substance. The drug is meldonium. The drug isn't even approved for use in the US period.

She is already losing endorsements. Seemed like a popular but mild celebrity athlete.

She was still taking, a now banned, performance enhancing drug.

She is so wealthy now she should shut up and open a chain of restaurants...

He has a candy line called Sugarpova.

Hey, Maria's a successful model and already a multiple grand slam winner. It's too bad, but she'll survive this. Many tennis stars have been banned for using substances not approved of by the Atp and the Wta and their careers have survived. So will Maria.

Apparently this drug, meldonium was legal or not banned until this year in January. She was warned at least 5 times that this drug would be banned in tennis. Also if the drug is used as intended it's a 4-6 week course of treatment/doses, not the 10 years she's been using it.

You would figure these sports organizations would follow the lead of the big organizations like the Olympics when it comes to banned substances.
