Easter is almost here. did any of you believe in the Easter Bunny?

Yes, Laurie,I guess you could call the Easter bunny mythical. Some folks think people believed the bunny laid the eggs. He didn't lay them, he hopped down the bunny trail on Easter morning and hid the eggs and gave out candy to all the children. The song that Karen posted here explains the whole thing. Silly concept but so much fun!!!!

Thank you Ruth.

I suppose rabbits laying eggs is no more unlikely than a big fat man, with a sack, coming down a chimney!

How I loved that song. After awhile the record skipped in places, but I still played it. Thanks for sharing Karen. There was another one I loved, it was on one of those little yellow records for kids. It was called, Egbert The Easter Egg, Rosemary Clooney sang it. Both bring back great memories.

Yeah that was a good tune. Came back immediately in my head without running the video.

As a kid, we had the Easter baskets with candy and dyed eggs. We knew about the Easter Bunny, but he was never really a big part of our Easter. Wait! How could I forget? The chocolate Easter Bunny was the best part!
When we had our kids, we did all sorts of creative egg dying. Batman and Robin, The Wizard of Oz characters. Sometimes people we knew. We never made a big deal out of the Bunny though. My son really made a big deal with his kids. They did a whole scavenge hunt thing with the eggs, with notes and all. He had a hand me down bunny suit that he wore for the kids when they were really little. A horrible looking thing, but they all had a great time!

I believe in the Easter Bunny. I saw him with my own eyes. I was 5, staying with my grandparents at their dairy farm, and was just sitting in my little rocking chair on the front porch, staring out over the front yard when he came hopping down the road. The road was about a quarter mile from the house, but I know it was him; the white fur, his little vest and big bow tie. Unmistakable.

:jumelles: Yeah! Your right! I think I see 'em coming now!

Yes, what you say is true. The Easter Bunny told me he passed a little girl sitting on the porch in a rocking chair on the way to my house. It must have been you. Small world.I hope he left you some Easter goodies.

I was a farm girl during those years. I knew the chickens had to be laying all the eggs. I thought it was very sad the bunny got all the credit on Easter. I had spent all my little days running around in blue jeans and sleeveless shirts, so when they duded me up for Easter I was in abject misery. They put spikey things in my head to make my hair curl and some tight feeling dress with a bow, and leotards. I was in a torture suit I tell ya! I kept up the whine and cry for quite a while. My aunt told me " That's the price of beauty" I yelled back " I don't want to be beautiful! This doesn't feel good!" I finally got my way and was the only girl at the egg hunt in old blue jeans & gingham shirt. I loved the egg hunts.

I was a weird kid. Part of me enjoyed the concept of an Easter bunny. Santa Claus? Nah, I let go of that idea at a very early age. We had no working fireplace, all those Santa's at the stores were obviously different guys in costume, besides all the toys were in my Mom's closet. But the Easter bunny was a fun idea even if I didn't exactly believe. The baskets and candy were in the closet too...I did a lot of snooping;)

Easter is meant to remember a particularly horrible execution, and the Spirit's triumph over it.

It is not meant to be fun.

For some. For others its a joyous celebration of the rebirth of nature. The term "Easter" does not appear in the Bible and is thought to derive from the Anglo-Saxon goddess Oestre. I would much rather dwell on the annual triumph of my Crocus.:sunshine:

I never liked Easter much, Christmas was much more fun.

I'm from a Catholic family and they made Easter every bit as much fun for the kids as Christmas. Plus the weather when I live is always nicer in the spring. Fun for kids doing the Easter egg hunt.

"or others its a joyous celebration of the rebirth of nature."

But that's Spring, not a religious festival, and was going on long before the birth, and death, of Christ.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but in the UK there are moves afoot to do away with Easter, and just have a fixed "Spring Holiday".

May I have shuffled off this mortal whatsit before that ever happens!

I fail to understand what the horror is about celebrating Spring. Few things in life bring so much joy to the human spirit.

The crazy crucifixion nonsense made Easter miserable for me as a kid!

This thread had a lighthearted topic ' Easter is here. did any of you believe in the Easter Bunny?'

I think 'did you believe in the Easter bunny' was the topic. Holiday policies being adapted by different countries and regions was not the topic. Maybe your topic might be a better topic for the political forum. Whether or not you think it's okay to celebrate an Easter egg hunt should probably also go there because Christians all over this country have egg hunts on church grounds on Easter so.. It seems like fun threads like this always get hijacked by some comment that heads off in an entirely different direction.

Yi Yi Yi! LOOK the size of this bunny! WOW! haha.... he like the size of my car! :)

Yes...I was believe in Easter Bunny - I still was living in Italy at age 8 and the only reason I stop believe was because I hear one my Aunties say to my Uncle "Do not forget to hide more eggs for the childrens" ....so that when I figure out is a bunch of baloney..haha..... In Italy, we have handpaint chocolate eggs and they was so beautiful in the store windows..so they was hide REAL boil eggs so they not melt..... Still - they was wonderful memories!.... I treasure them!... xo :)

I believed in the bunny until I was a teen so I could get the goodies but he didn't show up after I was about fourteen, same with Santa, clothes after that...

I can't remember if I ever really believed in the Easter bunny, probably did, as a little kid, but I really liked hunting for Easter eggs. I remember putting them in my little basket and carrying them around everywhere for a couple of days.
