Flight Attendant Tries To Smuggle 60 Pounds Of Cocaine

A Jet Blue flight attendant either wants to join the mile high club-forever or do her best Scarface imitation getting caught leaving her suitcase with 60 pounds of cocaine in it. A surprise check at Los Angeles airport apparently caught her by surprise. She took off her shoes at the check point then ran leaving her luggage/cocaine. She was arrested in NY and it is thought to be drugs from/for a Jamaican gang.

I am embarrassed to say, that over the years, there have been many arrests of flight crew personnel smuggling drugs for known traffickers. One such incident immediately comes to mind and that being when back in the 90's, (I think), an American Airlines F/A was caught smuggling cocaine for one of these distributors out of Miami to New York. Unknown to her was the fact that she was being peeped by the DEA for a few months before they finally brought her down.

Even today in the day and age of terrorism the original article said that crew tended to get a free pass or let through without full inspection. Actually having the surprise search is what caught her, if they had sent out a memo all crew will now be searched those activities would've ceased.

When someone crosses state lines like a flight crew does I don't think they realize the severity of the crime they are committing and/or the resources that will be spent to investigate and/or prosecute them.

It's a wise tail but many believe those in the hospitality industry ie bars, restaurants, hotels etc are more likely to be into drugs and that would include a flight attendants.
