Cobe Bryant retires putting up 60 points! But was he a rapist?

It seems that we have forgotten the rape charge of the past. Great sports figures seem to be excused for almost any bad behavior...

It was never proven. A lot of high profile sports players are charged with rape by ladies that think they can cash in on their fame and fortunes. They use blackmail by telling these guys, "Pay me or I will report it as a rape." Whether he did or not we will probably never know. I would think that Kobe could have had any lady he chose for a pittance of what he settled paying this young lady. The case was settled behind closed doors after 15 months of negotiations. One thing is for sure and that is the young lady, 19 y/o, will be able to do her shopping in Beverly Hills now.

It was reported that the LA Lakers tickets for Kobe's last game were selling for $25,000.00.

That's the typical saying 'he could have anyone he chooses"
'Rolling eyes'
That's the mentality they have to begin with and they think they can get away with it.

We don't know who is the liar here but why settle anything if you are innocent?

Isn't he the same guy who cheated on his wife and bought her the biggest rock ever and everyone was like 'wow',like that makes up for it.

If nothing else it was poor decision making. A few years later sheeple sports fans and celebrity addicted public seemed to have forgotten.

I don't know much about this particular case, but the reality is that people settle things all the time when they have done no wrong, mostly because they will lose more money in legal fees, etc., if it drags on and on and on than they would just to settle. It's a financial decision, not an admission of guilt. Insurance companies do this all the time, so do individuals.

BUT, remember that if he settled, then it was a civil suit and NOT a criminal one. You cannot settle a criminal suit for money damages.

In this era where everybody sues everybody for anything, it's pretty easy to back someone with "deep pockets" (with money) into a corner where they'll settle just to make it go away. Even if they go to court and the jury finds they did nothing wrong, they still have to pay their own legal defense fees, which can be astronomical in a high profile lawsuit (and remember that the attorneys working for the accuser would have been working for a percentage of the settlement, NOT hourly, as the attorneys for the accused would have been, so she has little to lose by pursuing it into eternity.) In my opinion, this is a form of legal blackmail, but people do it all the time.
