being a bit sarcastic. just went to see about senior housing and I make 850$ too much per year. I said, just charge 30% on the 850 per year, she says "the government doesn't work that way".

So that's my funny for the day. So much for logic.

Like most seniors my income is just average - so it's impossible to pay the exorbitant market rents. I have been sending zillions of resumes to add to my very part-time income with no success. I have decided to search out community living in nm where I am currently living as an alternative.

any one out there no of quality communities (intentional). I am able to relocate after November 2016.

Responding to your posts would be easier if you would complete some profile information, like where do you live, etc. etc.

Hey, queenenergy, I see you're in Santa Fe -- I'm down in Albuquerque. Have you looked down here to see if it's any cheaper? I've always heard Santa Fe is a very expensive place to live. It's not exactly cheap living here, either, but it might be a little cheaper than Santa Fe.

It is logical. People below a certain income level have to have places to live that they can afford. People whose income is higher than the maximum set level don't qualify to live in low-income housing. There are usually long waiting lists as it is, of people who are at or below the maximum level. The properties can't make exceptions or the communities would be just like any other residential community. So there's your logic. So why the sarcasm?

I don't get your "funny." Trust me, it isn't. It actually strikes me as completely clueless and unfeeling and like you want to be an exception to a very logical, good rule.

Thank goodness the US works this way ("our country" was a bit misleading in your title, too, as there are people here from other countries than the US).

Unfortunately I have to be in santa fe because our rehearsals are at night (choir) and I used to live an hour away and after going home one night in a white out I decided it would be safer to find a place here.

This year we are going to rome (out of our own pockets) and next year to carnegie and so that is why it makes it difficult to just find something doable for living quarters for me.

People who live in low-income housing don't have deep enough pockets to pull out money to go to Rome. Not they they wouldn't like to, it's just beyond their means. They can't even afford groceries often (thus food stamps) or medical care (thus Medicaid).

I hope you never get the dose of reality you seem to never have tasted.

If your "very part time income" is what puts you over the top to qualify for the lowered rent, maybe you should drop that job. Have you done the math to see if rent savings would offset the lose of income? Just a thought. Welcome to the forum and have a great day!

Have you tried senior services information and referral of any kind? There must be others in your area in the same situation. I'm in Oregon, and in my own home. So I am not sure how much rent is. People in smaller rural communities sometimes might a harder time finding renters and therefore have lower rent. This makes the case for if my husband dies first, I might rent out a room to someone for cheap. It would fill the loneliness gap and help someone out.

Welcome to the community.
