My brother got a recliner

I'm so happy for my brother. He got a recliner. He said he doesn't know who got it for him. It could be a lifesaver for him. David is large, and has many health issues. He's developed an open sore on his leg due to chronic swelling. The sore hasn't healed in months.

David uses a wide wheelchair, and has chosen to spend all his time inside his apartment. One of his few joys is playing games on his Xbox one. David spends far too much time sitting in his wheelchair playing games while his legs swell.

Now David can sit in his recliner, enjoy himself, and let the swelling of his legs shrink down. David will be moving his TV into the living room. We should be able to watch movies together in his place. He won't need to worry about his leg!

That's good news Ron. Has he seen anyone about that sore on his leg? I'm glad you are going to be able to watch some movies together. I've always enjoyed watching movies with loved ones. :)

David has nurses and a doctor visit his apartment on a regular basis. They've been doing all they can. He needed to take that extra step of getting the recliner to help lessen the swelling of his legs.

I have a large library of movies and TV shows. We'll probably get something new that he hasn't seen. I bought a few recently, but can't remember the names.

This is just the beginning. We'll need to figure how to rearrange furniture to make him comfy, and allow some room for visitors etc. I can only do so much to help because I have my own health limitations. But we're both excited.

That's good news Ron, glad your brother was able to get his recliner. Very nice that you'll be spending more time together too! :)

So glad your brother got the recliner. Maybe even a pillow under the affected leg on the recliner may help even more.

Yes! After my hip surgery, I was told to spend part of each day during the recuperation period with my toes above my heart, to help with circulation and defend against swelling. I got one of those big foam wedges to put under my legs. I was also given exercises to do, nothing big, but like moving my feet around in circles and up and down, to increase circulation.

My sister is grossly overweight and she has terrible problems with swelling feet and legs.

I don't have those particular health issues myself but I want a recliner too. They are so comfy! Today's recliners are good looking and also made for short people like me.

I hope your brother finds relief and you both have good times.

My old Lay-Z-Boy recliner is my favorite piece of furniture. It's almost 20 years old, and has held up very well. The Only problem with it is that it is so comfortable that if I recline it while watching TV after supper, etc., I almost always miss the show...as I quickly take a "cat nap" within minutes of leaning back.

I had one of those for years, too, but the electric one allows me different positioning that is great...

Thanks for all your kind words and support. Unfortunately my Dad was mad at me for sharing this news on Facebook. He said I violated my brother's privacy. I'm really hurt.

I was supposed to help my brother get a new TV etc today. I had a fitful night's sleep and just had to tell him I can't help him today. I'll try to get more rest during the day. I really needed to go grocery shopping, but I just can't handle it right now.

I sent my Dad an email to explain how he hurt my feelings. Dad has never supported emotions. I don't expect any positive response.

I'm so sorry Ron. I doubt you are the only one that has innocently gotten in trouble on Facebook. I put up a photo of my daughter when she was 8 years old right after she had gotten a hair cut. I thought it was the cutest photo. You would have thought I put a photo up of her naked. I was told to take it down in no uncertain terms. I will never, ever, put anything up there again. A simple like or that's nice is all I'm posting now. Don't feel hurt, you're not alone.

The electric recliner is great for anyone after a certain age!

I had a Lazy Boy electric recliner bought in 2013. I had nothing but trouble with it -- the motor turned around, and a couple other gadgets in there did too. I'm normal weight (130), so I wasn't too heavy for it, though the dumb customer service guy tried to tell me that was the problem. WHAT!??! Presumably they would figure men would sit in these things, too, and I don't know very many men who weigh below 130! So after having it in the shop (not cheap) several times, I got rid of it and bought a recliner with the normal hand mechanism, and not a Lazy Boy. No trouble at all with the new one and it was several hundred dollars cheaper than the electric Lazy Boy. I think Lazy Boy's quality has gone way downhill.

There are some truly kind people out there. I'm so pleased they helped your brother. I recently was a recipient of something wonderful too...support I never expected from an unexpected source. I'm glad for you and your brother.

Thanks. The gift was relative to the loss of my brother who was in prison for murder. He died this week in prison. At the time of the murders 36 years ago my extended family extended no love or kindness to me. I was left to drown and help my parents with it all on my own except for marginal help from my sister. I was the baby of the family. My parents and sister are now dead. This time a few of the family are, at least so far, being supportive. The surprise support came from the family of those my brother killed. Long story, but the bottom line is that they offered help with the second book I'm about to publish on it. When they found my first book on it, it helped their family so much that now, two of them in a segment of the writing business offered help with the things they know how to do, for free. I don't need editing help, but one of them offered to do a review of the book and put it on Goodreads and anywhere else I might like. There are a number of things they are willing to do, for me. I am overwhelmed. That was the gift. I would have never expected it. I have had to handle things for my brother now, a brother from which I was estranged because he was mentally ill. Even so I was on his emergency contact list. Acutally the only one on it. He had two kids. It's a mess. So gift of kindness from an expected source gave me tears of gratitude in my heart.

We have that problem these days too except we don't even need a recliner! Turn that movie on, stretch out on the couch with the feet up and we're gone. And definitely no tv in the bedroom. Wouldn't even get past the credits. TV is my go to 'sleeping pill'.

I'm a big man. I hang over the sides of the couch. I shouldn't sleep on the couch or a recliner. I have to use a BiPap machine when I sleep. Sleep Apnea.
