Are Tou Taking A BLOOD THINNER PRESCRIPTION?

Baby Aspirin is not sufficient for me so says the DOC, so I take the much advertised Xarelto. I hate that damn thinner. The slightest bump to the body and you have a bruise. The slightest nick to the body and you have a bleed. I am glad that I don't have Rose Bushes.
This morning while using my electric shaver I ran the razor over my upper lip where I had a old dried up pimple and caused a bleed. I am sitting here with a wet cloth to my upper lip as I type this.

Thank you Deb but I will have to stay with what I am taking because ALL the available meds for my particular need will have the same effect. It's irritating, but just something I will have to live (or die) with.
 

My Dad takes Coumadin and like you he really hates it. He's had numerous biopsies for melanoma. I believe he has to stop the blood thinner well ahead of the biopsies. But even a week off of it and the tiniest band aid change turns into a huge mess.
 
I don't take any blood thinners, but if I had to I'd opt for more natural treatments like a good quality Omega 3 fish oil or Garlic supplement. I think that natural Vitamin E also thins the blood, none of these can be taken alongside prescription blood thinners. Also, if anyone has health issues, they should always research all side effects and drug interactions for any supplements. I heard that one of those prescription blood thinners are nothing but a rat poison, I think it's Coumadin. I'd avoid taking any of those drugs if I could.

Natural supplements are OK for some conditions but I don't believe they will prevent a STROKE in people that are STROKE PRONE.

We're lucky with our Xarelto Co Pays Pappy. I switched to Elequis last month and went back to Xarelto because the Co Pay was $147 per month with Eliguis and it required that you take two pills daily. Only one with Xarelto as you know. Ah well--we're still alive and kickin.
 
One additional thought-----Blood thinners alone do not keep your blood from forming clots. It requires the more advanced, but expensive blood clot preventers.

Well technically coumadin has been used for rat poison -- it kills the rats by making them bleed out internally. It was used for that before it was used on people -- then someone got the idea it might be useful in preventing blood clots in humans. Yes, it has been used as a rat poison, but it's not a rat poison in the sense that arsenic, etc., is.

I'm so smart about this because my sister must take it, and we asked her doctor and pharmacist about the "rat poison" thing because of something she read and got worried about. The above is what they told us.

The good thing about coumadin is that there is an antidote for it (Vitamin K) so its effects can be reversed quickly if need be. There's no antidote for Xarelto, which is the one my surgeon put me on right after my hip surgeries. I had to be on it for a total of 60 days, just in the post op stage, and then was taken off it after the danger period of post op blood clots stopped.

My sis would be long dead if it weren't for blood thinners.
