Where are the billions (yes that's billions) of dollars in cash that Pablo Escobar and other Drug Lords have buried and stashed away with lots of it having been confiscated by Mexican, American & Chilean governments. Let Cocaine Money pay for the wall.
 

Lon has a point I've tried to make for years. The National Debt could be settled if the U.S. would simply change its currency. Have the U.S. Mint begin printing billions of dollars of "red" or "blue" $50 and $100 bills. Have the government make an announcement and give citizens 90 days to turn in any existing cash from safety deposit boxes, personal safes, or "socks" for the 'new' money. Once that 90 days expired, none of the current "green" money would be recognized. It would be worthless paper.
As people turned in the cash, records would be kept as to each and their social security number. Any amounts over $10,000 would be subject to taxing by the IRS. The tax revenue would be substantial. And, all the drug lord cash... terrorist cash stashes... billons of dollars in currency still in Iraq and Afghanistan... ALL would be worthless unless exchanged. Many would let the cash rot rather than identify themselves as holders of such large sums.
 

Any wall may be breached. Fly over it, dig under it, go THROUGH it some way etc.

This is why castles have moats and drawbridges.

A wall of this type will never stop illegal entry. Mr. Trump, fuggedaboutit !
 
I mean, isn't this like closing the barn door after the cows got out? There has been a slow down of new immigrants. First they invite them in and then insult our intelligence by saying they are here doing jobs Americans don't want to do. Then they act like they can't stop them, the border is too vast. In fact, if I am remembering correctly, there was a time when employers were not permitted to question if they were legal or not! All the while, they knew darn well what they were doing--deceiving the American people! Those people were taken advantage of. Now, they want to round them up, send them out and build a wall. You know, we should be fed up with their bull. Now we build a wall. Why now? They seem to want to pick and chose the laws they want to follow (congress) but you do it and you'll be in jail. I say, forget the wall. Too little, way too late.
 
You know, the politicians make "noises" about the border and about illegal immigration in public. However, in reality there's that wink and nod condoning the continued immigration of thousands of workers....because the U.S. economy needs these types of workers.

An underclass of illegal, undocumented worker, that has to hide in the shadows, a worker that fears deportation if they try to stand up to exploitation or live an aboveboard life.

Slavery was outlawed in the U.S. back in 1865, but human exploitation continues....corporate profits demand it.
 
In Maricopa County AZ 30% of the jail inmates are illegals. And that is only the ones they have caught.

If we fail to stop illegal immigration, we will only get more and more of the same.

Well, since we have an Administration that is theoretically not of the Party" in the pocket of Big Business" you'd think that the current laws would be enforced - using E-verify for example.

We really do not need a "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" bill getting through Congress to deal with this aspect of the problem.

NO. What we need is to enforce the laws on the books already, and hold the lawbreakers accountable, be they the employers or the employee. In southern NM, where the big chile farmers are, practically every labor law you can think of is broken on any given day by the agricultural employers and labor brokers -- misreporting of wages, NOT identifying workers, outright cheating workers of wages, allegedly deducting taxes from workers' wages but pocketing them instead of paying them over to the government, giving fraudulent paystubs to workers, improper or nonexistent record keeping, mischaracterizing "employees" as "casual labor" to avoid taxes -- you name it, it happens. BUT nothing is done about it. Once in a while a worker or group of workers will get together with Legal Aid and raise a stink with DOL or IRS, but it can take years for such a case to come to trial and by that time the workers have all moved on. At one point, I worked for a law firm that was involved in some of those cases, and it is amazing what those employers get away with.

Interesting to note that if I, as being responsible for payroll and payroll tax reporting, made any kind of mistake on my submission forms, I'd have DOL all over my butt within about 48 hours; but nobody even "notices" what goes on with big agricultural employers.

Years ago I was in favor of a wall on the border, but the reality of the whole immigration issue finally sink in, and I now see having "a wall" as just a PLACEBO.

Even if the U.S. Government were to aggressively guard the border, such effort would be ineffective. Spending many more millons of $$(or billions) to keep out economic migrants would not be cost effective. Keeping out terrorists would be a much more rational goal, but they would not likely be crossing the border on foot, don't you see...


I know that property owners and communities on the border are adversely impacted by the flow of illegal immigrants, regrettably the U.S. Government historically has chosen not to help states and local authorities with this problem.

I don't think illegal border crossings are slowing down in this neck of the woods. I don't think a wall will be built, either, but we could sure use some more border patrol agents down south.
 
Why don't we just pay our current illegal aliens to stand guard along the border and keep all new illegal aliens out?

Build little wooden huts every couple of hundred yards, give them free rent and pay them minimum wage.

Arm them with guns confiscated from places like LA and Chicago.
