I've subscribed to Esquire and GQ for many years. Interesting articles and style tips to pass on to my sons. But Esquire changed editors. I'll probably still glance through it at the library but cancelled the subscription. The target audience is young men from maybe twenty to thirty five. Yup I got old.

Anyway, a story that was interesting. The magazine sent the writer to get the most expensive hair trim he could find. There is a salon, I'm sure many more than one, that charges $700 for a basic cut and color enhancement. The writer did feel a significant difference...which then sunk into meh.

When you're paying that much it's about overall experience. The décor of the salon, perhaps coffee or wine, each individual hair snipped just so, the comfort of the styling chairs, hair color formulated uniquely for each patron. But at the end...SuperCuts might do just as well. I have gone to high end places a few times. It really didn't make a big difference.

Holy cow. Then what, $100-$150 tip? I wonder how much business they get? Think DT goes there for his "do"? No, I go to the same woman I have for years. I am happy with her, she listens to what I want. The place is clean, the gals are friendly and I don't need atmosphere.

Aboout every six weeks we go into town and a very nice woman cuts my hair and does an excellent job. MY wife and daughters see her also. Very nice shop comfortable, but most definitely geared toward women. Ten dollars! includes any ear ,eyebrow, or facial trimming she deems appropriate. I always tip 5 bucks and I feel I am still getting a bargain for that. The worst high and tight barber in town starts at 12 dollars.

When my hair gets shaggy, I go up the street and have Lupita cut it. She charges me $15 and I give her a twenty
because I don't go that often. I tell her to use the #4 clippers all around. She does a good job including the eyebrows.

I can't imagine paying more than that.

I have gotten haircuts in Mexico for $3. Here I pay $10 senior price, weekdays only.

The dark hairs are almost completely gone.

Me, too -- same woman for years. I don't care about the "place" at all. It's the skill or experience or compatibility of the person cutting your hair that matters -- whether it's in somebody's kitchen or in a big fancy place. I don't go for the "experience" -- I go to get my hair trimmed.

Hair cuts here in NY are $13, plus tip. In Florida, I was paying $9.00, plus tip. My barber died last year and I had gone to him for 17 years. He charged $12.00 but cut my hair just the way I wanted it cut.
