Roger Ailes and the Shakeup at Fox News

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!! I was in the middle east when 9/11 happened. I came back home immediately. That is when I discovered to my horror that FOX news was manipulating the news to stir hatred. The news was so BOGUS. I tried to tell people on a forum I was on back then & virtually got drummed off the forum and actually called 'an American traitor' for trying to tell them FOX was manipulating the news about the middle east. Of course after it turned out there were no weapons of mass destruction found suddenly people slowly began to get wise about FOX, but not the die hard right wing who remained enamored & loyal viewers & believers. WOW! This is an incredible piece! This also shows more why Trump was expecting Megyn Kelly to play ball his way & got so nuts when she didn't and make that whacked out comment about her. He was USED to just getting the royal kid gloves & build up & was expecting it.

WOW!! Ailes is a dirty old man. Nothing new there. But a poster knowing more about events in Iraq than the government and pols of both political Parties - now, that is news (but not in this lengthy article).

Yes, you are correct, the Fox News manipulation is more obvious than ever and more are recognizing it.

I don't feel your attempts at communicating with me are straightforward in speech and are more of an attempt to murky or twist/spin any comment that I would make back. I don't feel like falling down the rabbit hole to try and decipher the twists and turns , so I'd like to decline further discussion with you.

It's fairly straight forward. Ailes is a dirty old man and no one is disagreeing about that.

It is the transition to the war in Iraq, claims about Fox News, and a rehash of President Bush's actions that gets a but murky.

I would say that reading the entire article one will learn how the news was manipulated by Ailes. The article is not just a piece about Ailes being a lecher, it's about the manipulation of the news by Ailes while running FOX and also has insights into Ailes using the network to promote Donald Trump , etc. Were the article strictly about Ailes being a perv it would not have been quite as interesting. It's about way way more than Ailes being a perv.

“The distraction from the teaching of the Scripps College of Communication has weighed heavily on my mind as I deliberated over the sustained effect on our university community should we continue to have our newsroom named for Mr. Ailes," Ohio University president Roderick McDavis said at a meeting of university faculty Monday, according to OU's 'The Post. "Given the allegations against Mr. Ailes, the circumstances surrounding his departure from Fox News, I’ve decided to return his gift and remove his name."

I have to disagree, he was much more than a dirty old man. No, he created an atmosphere where he used his power to discriminate against women and demote or fire them for speaking out. Both their livelihoods and reputations were at stake. It was, in every sense a "good old boys club". Classic example of sexual harassment, something not to be tolerated in the workplace. It should never be written off or taken lightly, excused as just a dirty old man. No one, whether it be women or men, should ever have to put up with this type of situation. These women are educated and gutsy enough to take him on. I doubt if a leopard will change his spots, but fortunately he is most likely approaching retirement age.

Exactly Carla. There is so so much more to this article. I would say that probably over 50 percent of people that are so angry about democrats are angry because of the manipulation of the news by Alies. He used his position to run an empire and punished those who did not give him sexual favors he used his position to control the news and run a news good ol boy system.

Now, what did the article say about any network stirring hatred after 9/11? I didn't see any news outlet expressing "love" for the terrorists. I saw nothing in the article about the middle east nor Iraqi weapons.

But, he did expect to "have his way" with women - the basic concept that all agree on and nothing about all the extraneous "WOW WOW WOW WOW" jazz.

I don't know about statistics, but it is possible it feeds into a certain way of thinking and validates them. The Republicans of years ago did not have this nastiness and toxicity. IMO this is what prevents them from adjusting in an ever-changing society. The Women's Movement truly brought about change, yet there are some still in denial. Sometimes even some of the women who have reaped the benefits of equality are the worst offenders! Brewing all this hatred and fear works on everyone to the point that violence can erupt. Sad to see our country go down this road....

I was just hazarding a guess, of course there would be no statistics, but I'm sure many many people trusted the way the news was being fed to them. It's sad really. Yes I also remember when the environment wasn't toxic & a democrats and republicans did not loathe each other based on politics. *sigh*

Does anyone really think that the average American thinks it's O.K. for the SecState to sell her office for the profit of her family business and it's only Fox that makes them think that is inappropriate?

Does anyone really think that the average American thinks it is O.K. for the SecState to use a private server to hide her actions in emails or to have aides and lawyers without security clearance have and read classified documents and only Fox upsets them??

And, how about aides and employees "taking the fifth" with regards to questions about how they were directed to deal with subpoenaed data - surely no one can have such a low opinion of the American people to think Fox has anything to do with concerns in those areas.

I think that people here are perfectly able to read this article in it's entirety and form their own opinions. It is a long and in depth very revealing article. No one here needs anyone else to tell them what to think about the article if they read it they can form their own opinion of the article.

I see you just don't understand Ray. What if you had a daughter that you just supported through college and went to work for someone like him? Their careers being threatened and fearful of losing their job? This is not an atmosphere conducive to success and is an abuse of his power. This is why there is a law. Call it WOW WOW or whatever you like in order to downplay it's seriousness, but the correct charge is sexual harassment.

Yes it's horrible when someone spends their money on an education and has pinned all their hopes on that type of career only to have some slime threaten to make sure she never works again in the business because she won't let him use her body as he wishes.

Carla - I fully concur with your comments about Ailes and his treatment of women. My comments were about how a [oster that translates into an attack of Fox News, a rehash of Iraq and President Bush. The article did not get into that.
