What is the stupidest , most thoughtless gift you have ever gotten?

Some candy that had been put into a perfume box to look like a gift of perfume. When I opened it inside was a bunch of candies rolling around loose in a box. Still can't figure it out. This was from a guy I was dating. I did tell him I thought it was a strange thing to do.

I've been blessed in the gift department in that I have never received a terrible gift from anyone. Some of these stories are awful. How insulted you must have felt. It's probably better to pass on gift giving than to give someone something that will hurt their feelings.

As I've already said I did give a present to my then girlfriend a purse, which I had to take back very quickly, but I've given a few other presents other people didn't like as well I must admit.

One was a James Galway CD I gave to my eldest sister, which didn't seem to hit the right note (little joke there, "oh never mind" as Frankie Howard would have said!).

Another was a tea mug I tried to give to my brother's then girlfriend, now his wife. The mug had a crocodile adornment on it and was "accidentally" left in my car, rather than taken home with her. Since then if I think someone is or has stubbed me I give them the crocodile tea mug as a little retort to them they remain blissfully unaware of its significance.

Thank goodness for gift cards these days. When I retired, I told the person in charge of getting my going-away gift what I wanted. It may have been tacky, but better than getting something I didn't want or couldn't use.

Many people, especially women, flip over a bouquet of cut flowers. To me, that is one of the biggest wastes of money there is. I also feel bad that lovely flowers had to lose their lives. I'd prefer a living plant, if that. Even for a funeral, instead of getting a floral arrangement, I donate the money I would have spent on that and give the money to a charity in the deceased name (they usually list charities to give to in the person's obit). On my parent's 25th anniversary, my mother's side of the family sent a big floral arrangement to their home. Her comment: "I wish they had sent us the money they spent on this instead."

"Another unwanted present I gave was a tea mug I tried to give to my brother's then girlfriend, now his wife. The mug had a crocodile adornment on it and was "accidentally" left in my car, rather than taken home with her. Since then if I think someone is or has snubbed me (not stubbed me as I wrote earlier) I give them the crocodile tea mug. This is as a little retort to those snubbing me and very satisfying especially as they remain blissfully unaware of its significance."

Oh yes indeedy chic my sister (whom I love dearly but sometimes she hasn't got the sense God gave a lemon) often gives me totally useless things. Well basically if you buy a gift for someone you generally buy something you like which is not always what the recipient would like. Anyway my sister has given me some stupid gifts for birthday and Christmas (I am a December baby and so is she) and I just wait till the following year and re-gift her gift back to her. You knew I was finally going to get to the point eventually didn't you
