Decaf or Regular, it's an easy choice for me.

Every Monday we go over to the club house to play table games usually Rummy & Dominos. We make a pot of regular coffee & a pot of decaf coffee. I had been having a little trouble sleeping if I drink one too late. I decided to switch to a cup of the decaf only last night. 2 hours later I went to bed & tossed & turned, body was jumpy, couldn't figure it out. I finally got to sleep around 1 AM, got up at my usual 6 AM. This afternoon decided to research the effects that I may have got from the decaf. Holy Moly! Decaf coffee unless it's done with Swiss water has chemicals added to the bath they use to remove the caffeine. can cause RA, heart problems, cancers, osteoporosis, respiratory issues & nerve damage. I believe that it is not a healthy alternative for better sleep. Maybe cutting out the late cup is better. I'm not blaming the decaf but was what it was.

Was always regular coffee for me, I only have two cups in the morning. I heard a long time ago that they used chemicals to decaffinate coffee, just one more thing behind the scenes that make us sickly. :coffee:

I had heard that the process (decaf) used chemicals but I didn't know they linked them to so many illnesses. There are products that we think are better for us like artificial sweeteners, margarines, low fat products that may not be all that healthy. They put so many chemicals in things today, the average person w/o a degree in chemistry has no idea what they are. Long term usage of some of these chemicals or even combining with something else we may be taking or eating...Of special concern also are the GMO's.

I always drink regular coffee, very strong, because I like caffeine. And sometimes I still fall asleep quickly.

I would never drink decaf, but I know a dog whose name is Decaf! Really. Dumb name.

I know, I know no one on this forum drinks decaf only regular. But, decaffeinated coffee now accounts for about 20 percent of total coffee consumption and is the only segment of the $4.8 billion coffee industry that is growing. I'm glad we're in the 80% of regular coffee drinkers. Wonder where the other 20% hang out. It's still a billion dollar industry.

Years ago I was in a cafe having a cup of coffee. An older gentleman I knew walked over with his cup 'n saucer in hand & sat down. At the side of the cup was an empty 'Sanka' packet. The waitress came over for a refill of my coffee, she tried to take his empty packet but he grabbed it before she did. He then had her fill his cup with regular coffee, as she walked away he put the empty packet back next to his now filled cup. Mormons, shun those who drink coffee but 'Sanka' is ok.

Hey, I drink decaf! Instant, even. Because when I drink coffee, I drink A LOT of it. Caffeine doesn't play nice with low blood sugar or blood sugar spikes/dips. I get my caffeine from tea.

Did you know bad decaf can smell like skunk?

From an article from a Dr. at the Mayo Clinic.

The average U.S. adult consumes about two 8-ounce cups (474 milliliters) of coffee a day, which can contain around 280 milligrams of caffeine. For most young, healthy adults, caffeine doesn't appear to noticeably affect blood sugar (glucose) levels, and consumption up to 400 milligrams a day appears to be safe.

Some studies suggest that drinking coffee, caffeinated and decaffeinated, may actually reduce your risk of developing diabetes.

If you already have diabetes, however, the impact of caffeine on insulin action may be associated with higher or lower blood sugar levels. For some people with diabetes, about 200 milligrams of caffeine — or the equivalent of one to two 8-ounce cups (237 to 474 milliliters) of plain, brewed coffee — may cause this effect.

Caffeine affects every person differently. If you have diabetes or you're struggling to control your blood sugar levels, limiting the amount of caffeine in your diet may provide a benefit.
I'm in the group unaffected by caffeine, but give me a sweet potato & I'm off to the races.

In the morning I'll have two or three mugs the size of soup bowls of expresso strength coffee...clears the cobwebs and gets me going. But after say 4pm I don't touch a drop of caffeinated anything.

I only drink one cup of espresso first thing in the morning. I use Medaglio D'Oro and brew using a Melitta single cup brewer, and then put in a bit of half and half, and definitely no sugar. It sets up the day just fine, and I don't crave coffee after that. In the winter I might have an afternoon cup of tea to chase the chill, but not coffee. I never get coffee from Starbucks or out; it's too expensive and doesn't suit my taste. The weirdest thing I ever saw in an office I worked in was someone drinking warm Coke in the morning. The idea made me almost nauseous.

Years ago I sneakily switched my husband over to decaf, he never noticed.it didn't seem to matter, now he usually has one or two cups a week, so he buys it at the local 7-11.

Mrstime I did the same thing with my husband. He was a big coffee drinker. He complained of coffee keeping him awake. I tried to get him to try decaf but he did not believe me when I said it tasted the same to me. so I started making decaf in the evening without telling him. I got caught a couple of months later and that is when he decided maybe it is good. he had had no trouble falling asleep and said it tasted fine.

Medaglio D'Oro...Yum, that brings up such lovely memories. When we were first dating my husband introduced me to the pleasures of proper Italian pastry and fresh brewed expresso. That brand is what he always got.

I have a niece who is a GP and she recommended that we should only have one 'regular' coffee in the morning and decaf the rest of the day.
I also had a drinking buddy who is a Medical Officer in the navy. He says that he needs about 6 cups of strong regular coffee every morning before he starts work!

For years I suffered with anxiety and trembling. I took Dexatrim, smoked, took water pills, and drank caffeine all day. It did keep me on my toes and my weight down, but I was horribly irritable and overly stressed. Then I got help with the trembling and anxiety, quit everything even caffeine. Now, I'm in control. Once in awhile I try a half caffeine but it just doesn't pick me up, just makes me nervous. So, decafe it is. Ppl ask so what's the point if the caffeine is missing? The point is I like coffee. I never drank it for the caffeine, but bc I like it. If I have trouble sleeping it's bc of anxiety, not coffee which I don't drink after noon anyway.
