Using Pinterest for Ideas

A few months ago, I got totally fed up with the chaos under my kitchen sink so I spent a couple weeks looking at Pinterest to get ideas on how to organize that space. It turned out so well, that even today, it is still organized and I still love the result. The first week I admit to just looking under there to admire it:eek:. Right now, I'm spending time there to try and figure out how to make the best use of the ultra small laundry room that we will have in our new apartment next summer. How many folks here use Pinterest to get ideas for this or for other things?

I have thought that using Pinterest was a big hassle for some reason. But maybe you can change my mind. How do you join it? Do you have a link?

I like Pinterest--you can find lots of ideas, information, recipes--love the recipes. For me, it's helpful as I need LOW FODMAP and gluten free recipes. You can pin them (save them). It is quite user friendly and easy to figure out, just get the app. You can type in any subject!

Pinterest is annoying to me because every time I search for an image, and it ends up on Pinterest, this big shadow starts covering the screen so you can't look at it. It wants you to log in. I refuse. Stubborn I guess. Don't like that kind of teasing marketing tactics.

Oh my gosh, you don't go on Pinterest! Oh Ruthanne, you are missing out on the most epic pleasurable time waster yet! Try this link: https://www.pinterest.com and I think you can join thru Facebook or something. Just follow the cues. ( WAIT A MINUTE! I just tried it and it doesn't seem quite so cut and dried. Hang on and I'll see if I can find something more to tell you....so be right back!)

Until I figure out the membership thing and can tell you, I will tell you that Pinterest is a fun thing to do and it's a safe, clutter free way to collect. I love it.

What you do on your page is make bulletin boards and you can give each one a subject. In your case, I'd suggest a board called Budgie Birds or Parakeets.....and then when you see photos on your travels through the Internet ether, you'll often notice a lineup of icons and one might be the Facebook one (to share it) or there'll be a red P (for Pinterest) and that means you can save that photo to your own Pinterest bulletin board. So when you click on it, it will open up a menu of your boards and you pick which one you want to 'pin' it too.

Or you might be wanting ideas on cleaning up chaos under your sink, so you'd do a Google search for 'Pinterest under sink storage' and then you can see all the other boards that other Pinterest followers have collected ---about under the sink storage! Or maybe all the other budgie pictures that other folks have come across. And you can click on one of their pictures and you'll see a Save button come up and then you can pin that photo to your 'budgie' board.

And if you're just bored, you can just Google 'Pinterest' and you'll just get a page full of random images to look at and save if you want. And over time, the program learns what kinds of pictures you like to save and it'll start generating more of those. It's so much fun and I'm so happy to get you started on a sure fire way to waste your evening;)! At least that's what it can be for me if I'm not careful. I think I've got about 60 boards. Different kinds of art, puppies, kittens, gardening stuff, ........

I hope you love it as much as I do! And no I don't have shares or anything.....

Thanks for all that information and link. I'm going to bookmark it and go there when I have more time. I usually am up very late so maybe then. I have to go to get some dog food now. :)

I feel the same way as you do Nancy. That screen that demands you register and log in is very offensive and pushy. I refuse also, just like the large white box blocking your reading on a facebook page unless you register and log in.

I was just searching a local doughnut business and trying to read their webpage, that is so far just only on facebook and it was almost impossible. I won't be bullied into joining sites like Pinterest or facebook just to read a simple article or look at a photo. Heavy bullying marketing tactics no doubt, not interested in this type of forced member gathering, although many obviously have no problem submitting to such tactics.

I went to pinterest and wasn't "bullied". I merely chose 5 topics and bookmarked the site to go back there. I did log in with my FB account but have to do that at several other sites too and don't find that to be threatening at all. :)

Okay, so I sent you an Invitation on FB to join Pinterest.....I think I did anyway:confused: so check your FB and see if you can see anything to accept there. It's a very weird system and my daughter signed me up so I'm flying by the seat of my pants. But try looking at your FB, see what you find there and if you can get signed up that way then just follow whatever prompts you see. And once you're on, if you have any question, I can help you a little bit. I'm not really tech savvy but I can find my way around there a little. Good luck.

It's too bad you feel that way SeaBreeze because it is great to use particularly if you are planning something, like a change to decor or looking for ideas on how to do something. You get to save those ideas in one spot for reference later. I would characterize it more as being part of a club, a member and one of the perks is that you have tons of beautiful images to check out and save if you chose for looking at later. But anyway, my advice, add to your last years on earth with the occasional reverie fueled by Pinterest:).

I just found my friend Sue's Pinterest boards by accident! She died about two years ago, so it's so much fun to tip toe through her thoughts and see what things warmed her heart! Now I'm just going to put the earbuds in, turn up the soundtrack to 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' and spend some time with Sue. Have a nice evening folks!

There are some things I'm forced into in life, like laws I don't agree with or supermarket cards to get some financial savings. But when it comes to pleasurable, social or fun groups online, I choose not to be bullied into joining, so much nicer if you're not. I'd appreciate a site so much more if they left my choice of joining to view their content and participate up to me.....the potential member.
