Do You Belong to Any Rewards Programs?

I don't mean all the free little cards on our key tags. I'm thinking of the memberships where you pay a certain yearly fee and then get discounts and coupons. I have a card for Barnes and Noble. It costs $25 a year but terrific savings. I mean for the price of one hardcover I probably save more than a hundred dollars. Anyone else?

Used to belong to B&N, I think I stopped because the books were cheaper on Amazon or because of the ebook craze. I used to go to B&N on Sunday mornings and browse through the store. Otherwise, no clubs for me. Heck, unless it's to get cheaper prices at the grocery stores, don't do those either.

I am 'Diamond' or 'Platinum' status with both Wyndam Hotels and Choice Hotels. Over the past 15 years, I've averaged close to 150 nights/year in hotels. I get a ton of "free" nights. Our firm has instituted a policy about a year ago where all hotels are to be booked by the firm. Upper management wants the firm to reap the benefits of booking travel instead of the individuals. I will not change and they can send me home at any time. If I stay away from my wife and family 4 nights/week, I deserve the benefits of that. Then, they wonder why the "younger generation" won't live out on the road.

All I can think of is Costco membership, pay $55 a year for the two of us, and we save a lot more than that shopping there during the year.

I agree with Aunt Bea, I'm not crazy about spending money to save money. But if you do the math and save a bunch more than the membership fee it's totally worth it.

It really depends on the goal. If the goal is to get new releases of books, movies, etc... at the lowest possible price it could be worth it. If the goal is to save money on reading material and other consumer goods then in my case I would not go to Barnes and Noble to buy a book. Face it, I'm just a second hand rose!

We use to belong to BJs club. My hubby's part time job was nearby the store. Since he retired we have to go quite a distance to get there. Lately, we have been getting a 3 month membership for free in the mail. We go and stock up,mostly on paper goods and items with a long shelf life. After the 3 months have expired within another month or two we get another free coupon. Until they get smart we will take advantage of this. I had Amazon Prime. Got suckered into a free membership when I bought my Kindle. After the year was up I forgot to cancel it and had to pay for another whole year. I really got nothing out of the membership. I never needed anything that bad that I needed it over night or the same day which is suppose to be one of the perks. I was given an Amazon gift certificate from a friend and I still haven't used it. When I find something I like the price is always cheaper in the local stores here.
