What The Heck Is A 3 year Old Doing At The Dentist?

That's insane! Are all those procedures like root canal and fillings being done on her baby teeth? I don't get it! So sad that this poor child is dead now, sounds like a greedy dentist, combined with ignorant parents, IMO. :( Hard to remember all the way back then, but I think I only started going to a dentist after I started school in the first grade.

This is one of the most tragic deaths I've heard of, so unnecessary! How could she not have had pain or discomfort way before needing so much work at one time? AND WHY WAS IT BEING DONE ALL AT ONCE??!! Not even an adult could have handled all that and I am blown away by the ridiculous choice this dentist made. Well, she'll never practice again and that's a good thing, but this baby is gone. Such a beautiful little girl...so heartbreaking.

As for much younger children having serious dental issues, it happens. The lil guy I'm Nanny to had 5 fillings and a root canal by the age of 5, but that was over a 3 yr period and only one issue was addressed at a time. (Also, he complained of discomfort and that's why he was taken in so young, age 2.) All of his work was done by a pediatric dentist and it was, IMO, pure neglect that caused the issues. All I can say is if he lived with his mother full time, his teeth would have had excellent attention, but that is not the case. And now that he's 7, he takes full responsibility for it when he's with his dad. He uses his kid's electric Sonicare (pings when it's time to change positions) and he's getting good checkups. And the domestic wars on that issue are over, thank God!

I just don't understand why this precious little girl's teeth were neglected to the point of needing so much work done...we'll never know.

So sad and tragic ...I saw this story yesterday and emailed the link to my daughter as she and her hubby are both dentists.

She hasn't replied because she has food poisoning or the stomach flu...poor baby.
Ii am curious as to what she will say because I know that they do work on young children these days...it's not like ...oh it's a baby tooth and wait til you get your adult teeth.

But in any case, the dentist was negligent.

I don't know much about kids, but I have heard that sucking on certain kinds of fruit juices out of a bottle will cause the teeth to rot...?

Just about every baby that I know of suck juices from a bottle nipple,if it was bad for them then Im sure the CDC or some gov office would have said something about it by now.

I know those sugar blasted juices are awful for kids. OG. Jordan never drinks those, never has. I've always done the shopping and I have never bought that type thing. I buy the pure juices with no sugar added. Both parents are health nuts, just wish the dad could be more particular/observant w/his son's teeth cleaning. He's a good dad, loves his son, but hygiene sometimes gets overlooked when they're in the mountains -- and they're there every weekend.

So far as their son's dental issues, his mom & I are sure it was caused by over a year of pure neglect and not making sure he brushed his teeth, even for an entire wk-end, and now that it's being done, he's finally getting excellent checkups. (All it takes is getting a British woman upset and SHE WILL TAKE CARE OF THINGS, and this mom raised enough hell to get some attention and did a darned good job of it. This was after 2 yrs of having her son in the dentists' chair on a reg basis!

His drink of choice is bottled water, but even more (and this is our little secret) he absolutely loves the 1/2 glass/wk I give him of my de-caf iced tea. I use a very small amount of sugar (promise) and a wedge of lemon, a few cubes of ice, and he begs for it. I tell his parents about it and they have never registered a complaint, so I will continue on. I think water is the most boring thing in the world to drink all day -- that's just me. But it's so good for us and Jordan drinks it for that reason. He is such a well disciplined little boy. I wish you could know him, he's a mind blower. Wish I could say that about my own children or grandchildren, but I have never met anyone like this young man. He's the biggest charmer without being a player that I've ever met....you know what I mean!

Funny thing, Jordan looks very much like my grandson. Jordan being 7 and RJ being 19. Sometimes I am overjoyed because it seems I have my sweet but wayward g'son as he was when he was smaller. But then reality hits and I realize they are 2 entirely different people. I know in my heart that I am even further endeared to this child because he looks so much like my g'son as a small child and it's almost like being able to have that beautiful time of my life back. Oh, how I wish!

This is the bad part....he drinks NO MILK ever anymore! He was once so addicted to milk, he would eat nothing, then did a complete 180 -- and now won't touch the stuff under any circumstances. He'll surely come around at some point, but they NEVER let him substitute it with soda or junk! His mom & I are very firm on that....so he's eating healthy if we could just keep the candy away and that's almost impossible, especially when his dad loves it so much. We try to be picky, but you can only do so much when he's in 3 different homes, mine included, on a regular basis. And this kid is the poster child for adaptable!

Totally off topic, but I haven't seen him in 2 wks, tho they've called, but I'm counting the minutes 'til I pick him up at school tomorrow. We're coming here & going to make Mac & Chees from scratch, his favorite and his mom will be thrilled! And he loves fresh veggies and fruit, so I don't think the diet played nearly as big a part in his dental issues as just plain not having him brush! aarrgghh!!!

Thank you for listening to my trials and tribulations, such as they are. Best and most positive way to end this, I wish Jordan were my grandson, I couldn't love him more.

I worked with a woman who used to put her little one (under 2) to bed with a bottle of chocolate milk. The had to put the little girl under to fix the mess her teeth were in. I don't understand that - you'd think some common sense would kick in there somewhere....

Am I the only one who suspects there's an elephant in the room here? She was a remarkably pretty girl, was the 'work' on temporary teeth for enhancing her chances in those hiddeous kiddies beauty contests? You have to wonder surely.

If baby teeth went off they were just yanked out and we waited for the adult ones to come through. What's the matter with people these days?

re:My niece suffered from rotting teeth front teeth at about 3 years. The dentist said it was from sucking apple juice from a bottle....that's all I know.

All I know is baby teeths start to fall out about age 5-6 and we shouldnt worry too much before that age, maybe the parents are not brushing their baby's teeth.

I finally read the story. I don't think any dentist would try to do that many procedures all at once even on an adult.

What a tragic tragic thing to have happened to that poor little girl. So sad.

I've just read this tragic story......I'm shocked......
I just can't believe a qualified dentist would even suggest such a thing......
that poor little girl.....what she must have gone through.:sorrow:
This is one of those news stories that really makes me feel ill. I can't quit thinking about that poor little girl. And the other little girl recently who is brain dead after the tonsillectomy. So sad.
