I have to take short periodic naps because I get not enough sleep at night. I have tried all the OTC as well as prescription meds to no avail.
You're not alone Lon. There are a lot of people who don't get enough sleep at night. This has happened to me as well. I happen to be taking a medicine lately that is not for sleep but for another condition that has as a side effect sedation and since I've been taking it most of the time I sleep better.I have to take short periodic naps because I get not enough sleep at night. Sometimes a good nip helps me, too!I used to wake up at night...then I started taking a nip of flavored vodka about an hour before bedtime, and that seems to do the trick...I seldom wake up before 7AM now. Then, today, I went to the dentist, and the dentist chair was so comfortable that I got a nice little 15 minute nap in while the x-rays were being processed.
I was never a day sleeper or napper even if I was sick I couldn't force myself to take a nap, I'd just read or watch television. The most I could hope for is going to bed an hour or so earlier.
I know what you mean.I do seem to have a lot more days where I would rather nap than stay up and do things. My husband still works, so I do get up every morning with him. Many days I have to force myself to not go back to bed after he leaves for work.
I nap on the couch, too, for the most part. Yes, that feeling is wonderful! :love_heart:I have no problem with taking a nap if I need one and it never impacts my getting to sleep at night either. But I can't fall asleep in the bed, only on the couch in the living room with the tv on very low. I love that feeling of waking up after a good one hour sleep when you feel so relaxed and peaceful!
Hahahahahaha!:love_heart:I also work from home and those 10-minute catnaps work wonders. I've long said that the success of a day off is measured by whether I get a good nap or not. She's heard it so often that my wife swears my gravestone will read, "Did somebody say "nap?""

Good advice..lolJust remember Lon, DO NOT take a sleeping pill and a laxative at the same time!!!
I am still trying to figure out how friends/relatives know when I am just about to dose off and my phone rings!!!!

I, too, have prescription pills for sleeping at night but they are not for insomnia and are not addicting. They are called Doxepin. They were originally for depression but have worked better for sleep according to doctors.I nap every afternoon for an hour. I am up 3 or 4 times every night and often have trouble
getting back to sleep. I also have tried many OTC remedies but to no effect. I have
prescription sleeping pills, and they do the trick but are habit forming so try to avoid
taking them.
Pain is something that will surely keep you awake Lon..I can relate to that..I woke up with pain all across my back from shoulder blade to shoulder blade..I'm thinking of taking a hot bath later.did that yesterday because of no sleep the night before. Rheumatoid Hip and leg kept me awake all night.
