Super Bowl Commercials

I have read that the cost of a single 30-second Super Bowl commercial will cost around $5.5 million. I have often thought about how many kids could have went to college on what is spent on commercials for the Super Bowl and the World Series alone, not to mention how much is also spent on the cost of running a Presidential election campaign. It has always seemed to me to be a loss of money that could have been better spent. Like for our Veterans and Seniors.

It makes me shake my head in amazement because these players earn a very nice salary during the course of the season. This is not to say that they shouldn't receive some additional compensation, but an extra approximately $100,000.00 for the winners and half that amount for the losers is a bit skewed. Compared to the average salary per player in the NFL and MLB this is really just chump change.

1 ditto.gif...The Vets and hospitals and research would be a better place to spend this $$$$$$...It maybe true that some of these companies maybe donate there but the added amount would help a lot more..JMHO

30 seconds is MUCH too long for ANY commercial ! Have you ever "timed" 30 seconds ?

It seems like it will never end...........and I think I'll NEVER buy the product !

Yes, there are better places for the expenditure. But, how does it get there? Let's say that I have $10 in my pocket. The Acme whatsit company thinks that I could be enticed to by their product with a clever ad, so they invest. If they guess wrong, they are out the expense, if they are right, they get my 10 bucks.

On the other hand, I could decide that I'd rather do without the whatsit and prefer to give my 10 bucks to the Vets hospital. But, that is my decision. I can't think of any way that not having this ridiculously high priced ads would get my money to a better place.

When you think about it, those ads must have a good track record or no one would pay for them - it is the consumer in the free market that creates this stupid situation. And, as stupid as it is, I'll take the free market over the alternative every day - stupid or not.
