Quick! Without research. Name the major countries known as "The Allies" and "The Axis" in

World War II. Most of the world took sides but can you name at least three on each side?

Yesterday, I was with a large group of 20 & 30 year olds and many of them could not. It was easy for me. I was alive during the war and for me, it was life. To younger people, has it become just more history, more dates and events to remember until test time?

Yeah I can do that. Lots of countries on the Allied side but only sure of 3 on the Axis side. Having said that I was aware that the German army had soldiers from a lot of countries.

Speaking of that I recently read a really good book, Beneath A Scarlet Sky, and learned that Brazian forces fought in Italy. That book was about life in Italy for a young man caught up in the war.

France, England and the U.S. were allies and Germany, Italy and Japan were the axis. :sentimental:

I am shocked. You forgot Russia and the Potsdam Conference? France wasn't there although they were an ally they were defeated by the Germans.

There were many other countries that were Allies. Canada for instance, and Australia and New Zealand and all the commonwealth countries.

On the axis side . There were quite a few countries on the side of the Axis.

Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania.

If I was going to list 3 from each side it would be USA, England, and Russia versus Germany, Italy, and Japan... seems those were the major players when the USA entered the war and my version of history is from the USA's perspective.

These were the six that come to my mind quickly. With thought, I could add a few more on the Allies side. Not certain for Axis.

Yes, I did forget about the Potsdam conference. I know France was occupied in 1940, but they did help Americans through the Resistance. One of my American relatives was aided by the French so I guess that's why I mentioned them even though they were not officially an ally like Russia. Sorry for the confusion.
