Well at least I can find one voice in the wilderness that is crying out the truth. Yes, there is an Evil Empire in the world. And we're it.

These are not the bad guys. The bad guys are the ones refusing to respect the sovereignty of North Korea or any other nation under the sun. The bad guys are the ones invading sovereign nations at will and slaughtering civilians with explosives dropped from flying killing machines. The fact that something so simple and so obvious is not universally known in America speaks to the phenomenal efficacy of its corporate media propaganda machine. Because of that propaganda machine, Americans sincerely think that the bad guys are the tiny little nations that America bullies in proxy conflicts to maintain global hegemony. They’re watching Star Wars and cheering for the stormtroopers.

Because of the neoconservative American supremacist doctrine that the US power establishment has espoused, America has given itself the authority to intervene in any government’s affairs at any time and for any reason. This doctrine of American supremacy is founded on the belief that the United States was selected by destiny to lead the world when it won the Cold War, a divine right of sorts to dominion over the entire planet. This is the real evil.

In the aftermath of WWII, it was somehow decided that the U.S. needed to become the world's "policeman"...and we have squandered trillions of dollars, and countless lives by doing so. While other nations have used their resources to build up their infrastructure, and improve the lives of their citizens, we have built the most powerful military machine in history. Meanwhile, our roads and bridges are falling apart, and 20% of our people are living a substandard lifestyle. We should Always have a strong military...whose primary purpose is "Defense", but let the people of other nations decide for themselves what kind of life they want. Perhaps some of the most meaningful words any of our politicians have ever spoken came from Teddy Roosevelt...."Speak Softly, but Carry a Big Stick".

I guess that's one way of saying it. A more accurate way is to say that we have decided that's since we're big and bad we can go all over the world bullying weaker nations "for their own good" in order for us to create a climate where our American business interests can exploit their people and resources.

IMO the whole notion of becoming the worlds policeman was a way to keep other nations weak and docile so that they would not pose a threat to the United States.

I agree with Trade that the United States has become a sort of peace bully in an attempt to protect our interests and promote our agenda around the world.

I wonder how comfortable we would be if any other nation in the world maintained as many offshore military bases as the United States.

IMO the world has gotten small enough where we should seriously consider phasing out the majority of these offshore bases, in an orderly manner over time, and use the resources to strengthen our own country, reduce our debts , restore our infrastructure, etc... I'm not saying that we should not go to the defense of our allies only that our allies should make every effort to defend themselves before they look to us for support.

We don't spend nearly enough on our military personnel. And we deploy them way too much. Civilian defense contractors are something else. They are nothing more than war profiteers. The Military Industrial Complex that Eisenhower warned us about. That's where the wasteful spending is.

After 60 years in Korea, we are still there. Didn't learn in Vietnam. Didn't learn in Iran. Didn't learn in Iraq, still there. Didn't learn in Afghanistan, still there.

We are not a democracy, yet force other countries to be democratic. Lots of Hipo in that crit.

The U.S. government decided to have a war based economy after WWII pulled us out of the Great Depression. That's why we were in Vietnam for 20 years....not to win, but to make money on the war. Same with Iraq and Afghanistan. Without war, we go into recession, because the bombs, bullets and military equipment doesn't get used up. So military contractors have to have layoffs, which causes more civilian layoffs. Congress is lying when they say pentagon spending is only $600 billion per year...more like a trillion dollars a year. The Iraq war cost $6 trillion alone.

You might want to review what much of Europe was like in the aftermath of WWII... unimaginable destruction and displacement of peoples. They had no choice but to rebuild their infrastructure. AND we were face to face with a USSR that was geared up for war, an immense bitterness for all it had suffered in that war, and a desire to claim everything they could for retribution as well as to remove any other threats to its homeland. It wasn't and isn't an easy situation to manage for us or any of the others involved in this. You let your guard down and it might be too late to effectively respond... or so it seems.

No matter what happens to NK the US isn't getting any minerals from there, not without a war with China.
