When the Weather Changes A Lot Do You Sleep More?

Our weather just got really cold the past few days and whenever this happens I sleep more. I guess I must be hibernating!

It's been around 20 or 30 F and I haven't gone outside in a few days. I just felt like sleeping and recall many years when this has happened for me.

I had tons of dreams I recall. One of them I was on the Andy Griffith show and he was showing me all of these old time items he has. Then I had 4 cars for sale.

So, does the extreme changes in weather make you want to sleep more?

Our temps went from 70+ on Fri. Nov. 3, to barely 20 on Fri Nov. 10 and the wind chill put the temps in the single digits. It was like going from June to January in just a few days. My body hates that and makes me much sleepier.

I see I'm not the only one. Our wind chills were the same as yours, too. Our October was really nice. I actually like the cooler temperatures, though, not generally below 40F.

Yes, I definately want to sleep more in the cold weather, I try to get out for at least a short walk each day but when it’s really cold and windy I hate it and soon hurry home

I'm going out today when it warms to 40.

Yes, I sleep more in the daytime during the colder months. Whether I sleep or not, I do a lot more lounging. I think of winter as my at-home vacation.
I am a lounging now. :)

I was living in Nashville when I was diagnosed with SAD. The first thing my doctor told me was I needed a change of scenery, so here I am in New Mexico.

Most of the time the weather here is great, but when a storm front moves through I tend to hibernate. If I can't go out and walk in the sun, I'll pile up on my sofa with a snuggly cat and wait it out.

I don't think I sleep any more, but I do sleep more sound, and have more vivid dreams when the room I'm sleeping in is cold, i.e., the breathing air is cold.

My sleeping habits doesn't really change much when the seasons do_On a winter's day if its really cold, I'll try to go out and take a short walk, all bundled up.I do get 'cabin fever' if 'mother nature' has made it impossible for me to go outside . On those days,I'll walk up/down the stairs to our apt complex basement a couple of times,my apt is on the 3rd floor. Every day,I take the stairs when I'm leaving the complex, when I go get my mail.I try not to take the elevator unless I have a couple packages
I also walk around my small 1 bedroom apt couple times for exercise Sue

I love hibernating.

No, just sort of mopey and dopey in the late fall and winter.
Oh, okay.

I have been sleeping more sound, too.

I wish I had the motivation and energy to do all that!

It hasn't gotten cold enough here in Florida yet for hibernation, but I do get terribly yawny when the nights close in early.

I remember up north in Michigan when I went to work in the dark and came home in the dark, working in a building with no windows. I was ready to go to bed by 6 p.m.

Does it get cold ever in FL? I am tired already and it's not even noon! I've been up since 2 am though. :)

This got me thinking that I may soon start a thread about odd dreams we have had. I have had some winners. And to stay on topic, while I do not think I sleep more, I tend to be a bit lest motivated and active. And maybe WANT to sleep more.

Cool Marie!

Oh, yes. It gets quite cold at times, but only for a couple of days and then it warms back up. I've lived here for 39 years now and I can remember the Christmas that it got down to the teens. It's even snowed in Orlando a couple of times; of course, I'm talking just a few flakes but it WAS snow.

Sleeping is one of my favorite pastimes but, yes, I do tend to sleep more during the winter months. Lot to be said for feeling cozy and toasty when it's chilly out. I do believe though, that I'm sleeping way more than my share, however, it's a relatively inexpensive pastime, so turn the light out on your way out :).
