Cold feet at night

What do any of you do about having cold feet a night when you get into bed? After I finally fall asleep, my feet do change and get to body temperature, but I like to read in bed for an hour or so, and my feet seem to get cold after I take off my shoes and socks for the night. And this is warm Southern California where it never gets below 50 at night! Wear wool socks that are so scratchy? I've even thought about getting some of those electric socks that have a battery attached to them. They worked in Alaska, but I'm worried about the 9 volt battery starting a fire..

Could be a circulation issue. As we age what the heart used to be able to do or even compensate for other issues in the body like poor circulation. Same issue happens helps cause edema in legs. I'd start doing plain old foot pumps 3 times a day. Not necessarily a cure but might help.

Some call them ankle pumps as well but they are nothing but flexing the foot using a pumping motion like one is hitting the gas or brake in a car.

Treat yourself to a pair of Angora bed socks or maybe a microwavable cherry pit pillow.

I bought some flannel sheets years ago, but found they were too warm to use at home. I used them once in the camper for fall camping, but they were too hot also....but our feet were cold at times. I told my husband I'd probably make a lot of money if I invented a sheet which had only the lower 1/3 a flannel material because cold feet are a common complaint especially for seniors.

C'est Moi, we both always have an open invitation to warm our feet on each other....warning not mandatory, but appreciated.

Maybe you could try an electric heating pad to warm up a spot for your feet. Most of the newer ones will cut off after a couple of hours so even if you forget to turn it off it would do so automatically.

I have an ancient pair of hunting socks that are about 10 sizes to big for my feet.I have no idea where they came from but they are so soft and comfortable and have a fleece lining. I use them only for bed and I think the fact that they are oversize helps. I have actually darned them from time to time as you can see in the photo. socks (800x600).jpg

There are all kinds of solutions to the problem from rubbing liniment on the feet before bedtime to warming up a towel in the microwave.

I have one of those bags containing grain that you warm up in the microwave for about a minute.

That works. But it's weird. Some nights, cold feet warm heart. Other nights warm feet cold heart. :sentimental:

I sleep under multiple blankets, but even so, it takes maybe 20 minutes for my feet to warm up under the covers, and I don't go to sleep easily with cold feet. I used to just wait it out, but now I have a hair dryer plugged into the power strip by my bed. I get under the covers, grab the dryer, warm up my feet, then take it a ways under the covers and warm up the foot of the bed.
