The (Hot Rod) Thrill Is Gone

I bought a new 5.0 Mustang convertible in 2015 thinking I wanted that thrill again despite my 2004 Hemi truck that I have modified for performance and will never part with. After two years I sold the Mustang because driving something that is "store bought" performance is just not the same as building a ride yourself. I miss how simple it was to work on 55s through 60's cars and blasting off knowing whatever it did because I made it so.

I used to drive a 66' Mustang I'd give anything to have that baby back. Baby blue she was................Squealed tires around every turn....many a day.

We all have the "ones we left behind" Mine was a 62 metallic blue Catalina.

Mine was a '57 Chevy 2-door hardtop, dark metallic blue with an all black interior, an AM radio with reverbs, and baby moons. On the weekends I'd cruise the strip and hang at the drive-in burger joint. "Oh, baby you know what I like".

In my 62 Pontiac I had something called "Vibrasonic" installed for my radio. It made it sound like you were in a cave or echo chamber. It was great.

I wasn't into muscle cars or hot-rods. My baby was a '57 Chevy Belair. 4 doors, because I had a kid already, but I painted it chrome yellow and had the windows tinted a sort of purple color. And, yes! I miss being able to open the damn hood and find the problem and fix it myself. Incredibly, I paid $50 for that car from an elderly lady who wouldn't take a dime more. It didn't have a scratch on it, so very little prep needed for the paint job, and it came out great! After after a year the brakes kept going out and I was tired of working on them. I sold the car as is for $1500. The guy who bought it was so overjoyed he about peed himself.

Sorry fmdog, but all I could think of when I read the bolded part was these guys.

Building a car on your own used to be a lot of fun. I had my hands in a few when I was younger both race cars and restoring classics. I really enjoyed it. I worked as an auto and light truck mechanic for 13 years out of high school.

Put me down as one who's thrill is still here.
I've had a boat load of hotrods in my lifetime (see my album), however, I have to admit the 2000 z-28 is one of the fastest cars I've had, and it is bad fast while wrapped in soft leather and while a super stereo plays all my favorite songs. As a bonus, I can get 27-29 mpg if I keep my leg out of it. ;) What's not to like? :)
