Apple turnovers

Basic recipe. Same as pie.

I only used one apple. A granny smith. Cut into chunks and cooked in a fry pan with sugar and cinnamon till soft.

Roll out the pie crust dough to about an 8 inch circle. Put the filling in the middle and pull the crust over and crimp.

Bake till it's golden.turnover.jpg

On the replay I should have rolled the crust thinner. It puffs up as it cooks.

I got the recipe from you tube. Search for apply turnover for the video.

I have tried and failed many of times to cook apple (we call them fritters) the way my husbands' Maw cooked them. She used dried apples. Those look really good.

Looks great, send me one. I love anything ‘pastry themed’, that’s why I don’t buy donuts, etc., instead of eating one, I’d eat every single one of ‘em.

Don't buy them. Make them. Just enough for one person.

That's why I only made two turnovers using one apple.

When you have to go through the baking process you want to save some for tomorrow. :)

How thick did you roll the crust Camper? Easier to make than a whole pie I would think.

I rolled it a bit too thick. I would roll it thinner just like a pie crust if I did it again.

It is easier to make than a whole pie because you bake it just on pie sheet. No container needed. I do it in my toaster oven and just watch it till it gets golden. I cooked them on parchment paper. No cleanup.

I also think I would make them smaller and they don't have to be round either. You can make them like a Mc Donald's pie.

The ones I made called for an eight inch circle. I had to cut them later into four pieces.

I think store bought pie crust dough would work for these.

I am going to experiment using other ingredients other than apple. Stuff I like. Like pears. And dates. And even spinach.

Thanks for the comments. I hope you get inspired to give them a try.
