There's been many.

I'll start off with the LaserDisc! It just couldn't compete against VHS at the time.

8 track tapes .......We had an 8 track player in our car and we'd haul around this "suitcase" with all the tapes in .UGH ! Audio Cassettes have faded away , but I heard they're making a comeback.

I made a time machine, in 2218, came back here, and then the darn machine failed because the dilithium crystals that power it are not available in 2018. I miss my robot buddies.
 
de-Havilland-Comet-1-showing-square-windows.jpg the infamous de haviland "comet" a British jet passenger plane with square windows. The square windows caused metal fatigue which resulted in catastrophic de-presurization at altitude and the loss of 3 planes and all their passengers. That is why all plane windows now have rounded corners
 
As I type this, a pair of X-Ray Specs sit on my work shelf, in my garage, absolutely no lie. They are great fun!

Oh, I'm sure they were a hoot. I never owned a pair but I remember seeing them advertised, (As probably a lot of us did.) in the back of magazines when I was a kid.

Just thought I'd put them in this thread as sort of an Honorable Mention.. :pride:

I always wanted a pair.
 
Some of the things posted didn't "fail," but became obsolete when replaced by newer technology. To me, a "fail" means it never caught on in the first place.
