Jamie Siminoff appeared on the Tv show "Shark Tank" with his invention. He devised a "door-bot" which allows a person to answer their doorbell via their smartphone. The invention lets you see the person who is ringing your doorbell and converse with that person, even if you are hundreds of miles away.

Mr. Siminoff's invention was turned down on the "Shark Tank" but after it aired, Richard Branson of Virgin Airline fame invested 70 million with Mr. Siminoff. That really got the ball rolling and sales sky-rocketed.

Amazon just bought the rights from Mr. Siminoff for 1.1 BILLION dollars. Amazon says it will market the hardware under the name "RING".
 

I saw the original show that Jamie Siminoff appeared on with his door-bot. Mr Wonderful did give him a proposal but Jamie turned him down. Cool invention, I want one!

I don't know when Amazon will start selling those devices. I agree, they are pretty cool.
 

I had something similar at our previous house. The doorbell was hooked up to a modem that was linked to our phone line. You could preset a number that it would dial out to, like a smartphone and it would reach you anywhere.

It was great but obviously this is light years ahead....I'd buy it!

Our door bell is hardly ever used!!
 
The Ring doorbell has been sold at retail for a couple of years now... even on Amazon. (We gave one to our son-in-law for Christmas.) Amazon also bought the security camera startup company "Blink."
 
This has been on sale over here for some time now,
with lots of ads on the TV.

I know one lady who was given one by her son as
a present, she says that it is great, she can see
who is at the door, but they can't see her, the bit
outside is audio only.
