What's on his mind ?

Last Friday morning I received a lunch invitation for today from my ex boss.....we got along pretty good and he had given me considerably more authority than my title suggested the last eight years that I was there before retiring and had raised my salary accordingly.

I retired 4-1-15 and other than a email once in awhile shortly after I left I haven't seen or heard from him in over 18 months but I did hear through the grapevine that he received a fairly big promotion last Oct.

I'm probably over thinking things but it just seems odd that out of the blue after over 18 months that all of a sudden he'd want to get together for lunch when it wasn't common for us to do so when I was there.

I worked there 31 years and although certainly not common the company has on rare occasions ask certain retirees to return to work on either a full or part time basis......I've been kicking it around all weekend and if a job offer is on his mind I'm not sure that I'm ready to start making that 50 mile round trip drive every day again in rush hour traffic.

Like I normally do I'm probably over thinking things and it's probably just a casual lunch invitation.......we'll see.

Interesting!

Maybe you could work out a deal as a consultant/trainer and work a couple of days a week for the equivalent of a full-time salary.

If it was a call from my last boss I wouldn't be wondering, I would have declined the offer of lunch. :)

Good luck!

Either a job offer or he needs advice from you. Can you work from home if it is an offer?

I was told that after I retired my boss was let go, and her boss was transferred to an outside sales position. They had a staff reduction of 50% and asked me if I would return.

When I arrived my ex boss was there and shortly afterwards a company lawyer and his secretary arrived.

The meeting was about a 50 year lease on a 835 acre plot in rural Okla. that I was involved in securing for the company back in 2013, from what I gathered the person that signed the lease has passed away and his surviving family are trying to have the lease nullified so the land can be divided and sold among the family.

The four of us had about a 45 minute closed door meeting, went to lunch and that was it.

What will happen?

I can't go into why we leased the land to begin with but the land has sat idle since 2013.

Unless I hear it through the grapevine I'll have no way of ever knowing for sure but I'd be willing to bet that when it's all said and done we allow the heirs "buy us out" of the lease and we'll end up making a tidy profit.

Considering there are no plans for the land after all this time, I'll bet you're right about the outcome!

edit to ask....what did you have for lunch? (I'm a foodie, can't help asking)

After the meeting we took a quick impromptu vote and we all decided to go downtown to a upscale Mexican restaurant.....darn good food !
